the ad I posted on Petfinder.com to get Angel a home
Whattya think?

Angel does not have a microchip. He is FIV/FELV negative and had a rabies shot along with a physical exam on March 14 2009. He weighs 14.5 pounds and is healthy. He is declawed in all four paws.

When Angel came to us, he was thin, torn up, and scared. It took a long time for him to get used to us. He's content to live in a big covered box under a table on our deck (the box contains a heated kennel bed). He eats well.

We have other cats, and Angel will have nothing to do with them, growling if they come near. This cat is clearly meant to be indoors, and he should belong to someone with no other cats and probably no children. I get the impression that a chaotic household is not for him. He may take a while to warm up to a new person/people.

I will charge an adoption fee of $68, half the vet bill of 3/14/09.

I submitted it with this picture:

2. Sounds like a truthful, informative ad ... but maybe add something positive up front?
Like ... "This sweet kitty is ready to snuggle on your lap" or something ... (Dunno if Angel is that type of cat, but maybe something similar).

3. May Angel get a wondermous home!
Thanks for taking care of him, and please screen potential adoptors carefully. I like the degree of truth that is displayed in your ad.

In fact, I usually tell potential adoptors anything negative right up front. I would rather have them be happily surprised when the cat turns out to be better behaved than I've said, rather than to have them be unhappily surprised if the kitty has traits that they don't want.

I hope Angel finds just the right fit!

8. Do you think telling them that he growls at my other cats is TOO
negative to tell up front? I do say he'd be best in a home w/ no other cats . . . ?

10. No, I think the way you've done it is fine.

And I second the previous post on this thread about the picture being great. He does indeed look like he's saying "let me in"!!!

Since there is a lot of controversy over declawing, hopefully, you will get inquiries from people who want a declawed cat.

For someone who insists on a declawed cat, it is ideal to adopt one that is already done rather than to adopt one and have it done.

11. "it is ideal to adopt one that is already done rather" -- I agree! And
it's one of the reasons I'm hopeful that he'll be adopted.

4. I'd move the 1st paragragh to last.

That way it leads off with the circumstances/personality. Later on the reader will want to know about the FIV/FelV etc.

14.5 lbs! Good size cat. That's what my cat weighed at shelter intake. He was a slimmer 13 lbs when I adopted him --this cat doesn't eat when he's stressed out. I knew that he was starting to relax when he cleared the food bowl.

My county shelter licenses and chips cats before adoption -- that way they have the record should the cat ever show up as a stray again.

on edit: Angel's wearing that PLEASE TAKE ME IN look. Hard to say no to that.

9. Your county shelter does it right.
Good suggestion. I'll do plenty of tinkering, I'm sure. Thanks.
