It's unfortunate that Irish language is still mostly relegated to the Gaeltacht as a community language. I know that everyone in the Republic is required to take Irish in school (as is Welsh in Wales), but Welsh is a lot more prevalent as a community language.

There was a program where the host travelled around Ireland speaking nothing but Irish to people. He got a mixed reception:
