If I download a video from Amazon to my PC and burn it to a
disc, can I play it in the DVD player, or just on the computer?

TIA.

2. Not sure. That's why I am wondering. It's the first time I've
attempted this. I usually just wait for the DVDs to come out, but I'm trying to catch up on a series I just started to watch that I really enjoy. And, I don't like watching videos on the computer.

5. Here's what I could dig up from perusing the interwebz
Most Amazon movies are in AVI format (and some are in WMV). Either way, you should be able to find a freeware or shareware program that will convert the given file into video_ts format and then using nero or any other decent burn software, make a standard dvd readable disc.

It won't be particularly fast, but it looks like it can be done.

7. Wait ...

Are you talking about the Video on Demand service from Amazon?

If so, those are windows media files (wmv) and have DRM attached to them. Before you can even start the conversion process, you're going to have to remove that.

Be aware of a couple things when going about this ...

If those are wmv files with DRM, you'll first have to remove the DRM, then start the conversion to the DVD compliant format. If they are avi files, they won't have DRM attached to them, but you'll still need to do the conversion.

This is not a short and easy process by any stretch of the imagination. Depending on the processing power of your computer, how much memory you have, etc., it could be quite a long process. Also, the quality you get is going to be degraded. It's certainly watchable, but it's not going to come out looking like it does when you buy the DVD or see it broadcast on the television.

Not trying to discourage you. I just want you to be aware of what you're getting into. It can be frustrating if you're not prepared for it.

9. It's the DRM that gives me pause ...

That can be stripped, but finding the software to do it can be an adventure in itself.

I convert DivX/XviD encoded files in an avi wrapper to DVD compliant files all the time, but I don't have to deal with DRM when doing that. It still takes awhile, somewhere between 30 minutes to an hour for a full DVD on my machine.
