First half-day in DC (dial-up warning)
I have more pics, but am too tired to upload them all at the moment.

The traffic coming in. I was shocked--we sure don't have anything like THIS back home in WV, lol.

Checking into the hotel, a couple of people from my class plus our professor (the guy in the brown jacket:)

The view from our hotel room window at the Arlington Hyatt:

Dinner at the Argonaut Cafe:

Me at the Argonaut Cafe:

Walking through Chinatown to get to the Metro station after the show at the Catalyst Theatre:

I am SO tired. We don't have to leave tomorrow until 1:00 pm, though, so yay!

11. Last night, we went to see a performance of Brecht's "Roundheads and Peakheads"
Edited on Sat Mar-14-09 09:40 AM by Rhythm
Today, we're seeing Euripides' "Ion" at the Shakespeare Theater, and Albee's "A Delicate Balance" at Arena Stage, and hopefully sneaking a look-around between. :-)

There will be lots and lots more pics to share later, i'm sure.

2. I see the traffic was light today ...

DC traffic makes me appreciate Houston traffic. At least in Houston I do eventually get to where I'm going without having to stop for gas.

5. That's rush hour traffic; twice a day weekdays.
Edited on Sat Mar-14-09 03:17 AM by elleng
Definitely not always like that.

8. Gotta love our traffic
The Wash DC/Metro area is so much fun to navigate! We live in what used to be a VERY rural part of Loudoun County. Not so much anymore. Enjoy your stay. Sounded like you had a full schedule!

9. Precisely why if I drive there, it's ALWAYS late at night or on a weekend.
Of course, I'm headed to the sister's in Silver Spring and just take busses/Metro in.

Can't wait to go back in April for the nephew's seventh birthday.

Rush hour on the Beltway on a Friday. Now I feel as though I can drive anywhere.

Looks like you're having a great time. Good!

14. It was OMFGWOW.
Series.

It's political street theatre for sure--entertaining, of course, but also highly relevant, almost timeless, and very socio-politically cutting. These people have kept the basic Brecht ideas about class and wealth, and updated the rhetoric so that a modern audience will appreciate it. In fact, I can't imagine this play ever being MORE relevant than it is right at this moment, save for when Brecht did it himself.

Man, I wish you were here. We had the best seats in the house. The actors were practically in our laps all evening.
