1. I recommend a Scotch whiskey mouthwash.
Swish and SWALLOW.
Repeat.
Sorry.

2. I'm not allowed alcohol - the bleeding isn't stopped yet.
Besides, I just took a Vicodin.

6. lol...
I think I really should obey this rule for tonight. Scotch tooth marinade tomorrow (or, if I have my preference, cognac).

8. Oh, no, you don't want that.
Just having this one taken out is horrible (not to mention the four wisdom teeth I had surgically ripped from my gums 20 years ago).

This molar had a 30-plus-year-old filling in it, which fractured, and the tooth fractured along with it. It couldn't be saved. :(

11. Been there, done that. I always remind people that one reason they feel
so bad after an extraction is that the heavy duty drugs they knock you out with are still working their way out of your system. It's wise not to drink tonight!

12. I didn't get knocked out - Novocaine only.
But I'm still going to follow the advisement against alcoholic beverages tonight.

13. I had a good week and a half of uncomfortable pain .. and
the area around the extraction (kinda the gum/bone) felt nice and bruised for a couple of weeks.

Oddly, the 800 mg of Ibuprofen provided longer pain relief than the Vicodin.

Sorry you're hurting. :(

14. I can believe it -
800 mg ibuprofen usually works well if I have dental pain.

I can take another Vicodin at about 9:15 or so, and I'm thinking it might help me sleep.

15. Good .. just make sure you don't do anything to dislodge the
blood clot so you don't get dry socket .. something my surgeon warned me about, because it's supposedly not a happy feeling at all. x(

Dry socket

Dry socket (alveolar osteitis) is a temporary dental condition that sometimes occurs after extraction of a permanent adult tooth. Dry socket occurs when the blood clot at the site of the tooth extraction is dislodged, exposing underlying bone and nerves and causing increasing pain.

Dry socket is the most common complication following tooth extractions, such as the removal of impacted wisdom teeth. When it occurs, dry socket usually strikes one to three days after a tooth extraction. The most common hallmark of dry socket is significant pain.

16. The doctor gave me some very specific instructions for the first 24 hours -
No straws, no drinking out of a bottle or can (glass only), no rinsing or spitting, no brushing my teeth - I'm guessing those were all to avoid just that situation.

17. Oh, honey. I'm sorry.
If your face still hurts in the morning, try some moist heat; you may be clenching without knowing it.

And ibuprofen works wonders to reduce swelling. Just be careful about using it if you are still bleeding.

19. I feel your pain.
I had two pulled last friday and it still hurts. I have taken about 2000 mg of ibuprofen today and that's barely helping. I hope you get to feeling better soon.
