I just finished watching Tropic Thunder...
and it was a fucking amazing movie. Wow. Great cast. I hate Tom Cruise, but I have to admit he was awesome in this one. Robert Downey Jr kicked ass, too.
Wow.
Definitely think people should see it, it's something else. :D

6. I thought Tom Cruise was wonderful in Valkyrie
I think his reputation overshadows his acting talent - he's good

5. The casting in Tropic Thunder was inspired.
Nick Nolte was perfect, Downey was superb, and Cruise took it up a couple notches. Even Ben Stiller's neurotic shtick worked.

14. oh wait, that one was pretty good, too.
i know the 'simple jack' sequences were really offensive, but they were SPOT ON about actors taking exploitative roles in order to grab for oscars, and that's what made it hilarious

I really didn't know what to expect. Really over the top crazy. Tom Cruise was hilarious and the entire cast was pretty good actually.

18. People say that every time Tom Cruise does a movie. Even critics.
"Yeah, I hate Tom Cruise but he was great in this one." Rain Man, The Vampire Chronicles, Born on the Fourth of July, Collateral, Magnolia...

He's a good actor, he's just got a lousy image, in part because half his roles have been easy-money vehicles. He's done some good stuff, though.

Now I'm going to go hide. Been through this one before. :hide:

20. He's got a lousy image so people think he's a creepy asshole.
Perception is not always reality. In this case, the fact that most other actors and directors love to work with him makes me doubt the perception.

25. No one who knows him says that, and mostly
only people who don't like his religion say that. Not to mention, 99.9% of the stuff people think they know about his religious "antics" are complete bullshit. Notice how many actors, most of them not Scientologists, are trying hard to work him into films to revive his career. They wouldn't be doing that if he was really holding secret recruiting parties and interviewing girlfriends on whether he could convert them or not, or any of the other nonsense the gullible around here spout.

24. It was the best skewering of Hollywood since "Bowfinger"
they went after everything:

Vietnam movies
Vietnam movie SOUNDTRACKS
Academy Awards
Blockbuster movies with star studded casts
Prima donna actors
They went after the Klumps movies for Pete's sake!!!
They went after commercial endorsements
They went after agents
They went after producers (perhaps the hardest)

It's like Ben Stiller and the other writer said, "We're going to make fun of everything associated with making big movies, everything."

And they did. I've not been a big fan of movies Ben Stiller has written in the past, with a couple exceptions, but this one he did right.
