March Madness Time - Who do you think the #1 seeds will be?
Something is REALLY wrong if Pitt is not a #1...I'm sure UNC will be a #1 & probably will get two games less than 30 miles from Chapel Hill...

I'll say the #1's will be:

PITT
UNC
UCONN
Memphis - but I don't think they deserve it though, their strength of schedule isn't there...5 teams from the Big East are better than them...

1. wasn't last year the only year all #1s made it to the final 4?
Sometimes #1 is not the best position.

Oklahoma, UConn, Pitt and ??? Memphis maybe Louisville? Haven't been watching that close this year

4. Starts March 19th ...

That's the first round games ...

Well, there's that single "opening round" game on March 17th for the last slot. I don't really understand that thing. Not sure I've ever watched it.

5. OU?
maybe a #2, but they are competitive as hell (which makes my blood boil) despite the fact that they were beaten by Texas, Arkansas, Kansas

I also expect to see Kansas in there as a #2 seed

I dunno about your assessment of Memphis, I think they are better than you give them credit for.

8. well, I think the #1 seeds might depend a little on the conference tourneys this year
I think Pitt and UNC have #1 seeds locked up. For the other two slots, I think there are several teams that might claim them:

UConn--winning the Big East tournament would seal the deal, and they have a good shot at a #1 seed even if they lose in the semis or the finals;

Oklahoma--winning the Big 12 tournament would all but guarantee a top seed; they have a chance even if they lose in the finals, but certainly no guarantee. They have four losses, but two were with Blake Griffin injured. They'll likely get a chance to avenge two of their losses in the tournament.

Louisville--If Louisville wins the Big East tournament, that means they either beat UConn in the final or UConn lost earlier (to Pittsburgh or someone worse), in which case Louisville will likely get UCONN's #1 seed.

Memphis--They should easily win their conference tournament, but they don't have as many wins against top 50 teams as several other teams, so I think they've got to hope for one of the other teams above them to lose early.

Michigan State--MSU has a lot of quality wins this year, but I think they're a long shot for a #1 seed. If they win their conference tourney and some other things shake out in their favor, then who knows.

All speculation, but that's where I think it stands now. As for who will actually wind up with the top seeds, I'm guessing Pitt, UNC, UCONN, and Oklahoma.

11. I agree
I think it will be Pitt, UCONN, UNC and Oklahoma.

There is no way that 3 big east teams get #1 seeds

16. If Louisville wins the Big East tournament, that'd be a clean sweep
REgular season AND tournament. Both UConn and Pitt could go suck one.

GO CARDS!!

19. Have to disagree with you here....
Pitt & Uconn had better overall records....I know, I know, Louisville had the better Big East record & they beat Pitt, somehow....Louisville is a very good team, but I'm sorry, PITT absolutely HAS to be a #1 seed (they had a 27-3 record!), even if they lose in first round Thurs....

20. Not likely that Pitt will lose in the first round
But hey, it's the Big East - toughest conference in the nation - and it COULD happen. If it does, seriously, kiss that #1 seed bye-bye. Otherwise, you're dreaming.

Frankly, I don't give a rip about seeding. No. 1 seed just means you've got a target on your back. No. 1 plays No. 16; No. 2 plays No. 15. Not much difference there.

9. I always get the tomatoes in and I love salvia but the snapdragons
get the earliest start so i suppose that makes them the # 1 Seeds.

12. My guess,
Winner of the Big East unless it's someone other than Pitt/Uconn/Louisville. Then I'd say Pitt.

Winner of ACC unless it's someone other than NC or Duke. Then I'd say NC

Memphis

Winner of Big12 unless it's someone other than OK or Kansas. Then I'd say OK.

17. Pitt didn't even win its conference.
If they want a #1 seed, they have to win the Big East tournament. Same with UConn.

It's really too soon to guess yet. See who wins the conference tournaments.

Edited on Tue Mar-10-09 12:33 PM by tigereye

but I'm biased. We saw em dismantle Vermont - but you can't get in there to see the Big East games...

Personally I'm not sure UConn should be, though.
