How did they ever get away with this? SNL Just Commercials on now
Some of their fake commercials are so non-PC it is amazing they were ever allowed on TV! I just watched the one for "Jewess Jeans" from 1980. Earlier they had an "Uncle Jemimah" booze commercial ("95% pure alcohol by volume") done in the style of the Walt Disney Song of the South complete with animated birds.

Not to say some aren't hysterically funny. Dan Akroyd and the Bass-O-Matic (or whatever they called it) had rofl.

4. SNL was once edgy ...

Not so much anymore. It's less about being PC, imo, than it is about the production executives' willingness to take risks.

And then there's the creative talent, which has often seemed more focused on being slapstick than taking risks or doing innovation ... basically mimicking Chevy Chase's entire career after SNL. :)

Speaking of Chase, no SNL troupe in the last 20 years would have even thought to do the Chase/Richard Pryor "interview" skit with the word association ... That was some hilarious stuff ... but really uncomfortable.

"Dead honky!"

OnEdit: Ah, cool. Here it is ...

5. Just started here on the left coast
So glad SNL straightened things out with Van Halen because the Schmidt's Gay commercial just ain't the same without "Beautiful Girls."

She was a-seaside sittin'
Just a-smokin' and a-drinkin' on ringside
On top of the world, oh yeah
