Does that mean, you have to hate America to sleep there?

I did a quick google search, and it looks like the bed was built into the wall, but I'm not sure if that was what it meant?

3. my google search
From speaking to our Luxury Collection folks just now, I learned that a French bed is smaller than a double bed, but larger than a twin or single-sized bed. Whatever the size, it is intended for one person.

5. Here's what dictionary.com says
–noun
a bed without posts, terminating in identical outward-curving rolls at the head and the foot.

Hmmmm . . . so I think I've got a French bed - interesting.

9. It depends on where the hotel is
I think, generally speaking, a French bed is roughly equivalent to sleigh bed.

If the hotel is in Italy, though, the term might refer to a mattress size that's slightly smaller than a double but larger than a twin. I'm not sure if that usage is common in Europe outside of Italy or not. Sometimes, too, it might just mean it's a double.
