DHS, the series
Just heard an interview on NPR of two producers for the new show DHS the Series and it was very enlightening. The NPR interviewer was observing that the DHS agents portrayed in the series are practically depicted as patriotic superheroes with superhuman abilities and virtues, capable of leaping tall buildings in a single bound, their red, white, and blue capes fluttering behind them. The interviewer went on to note that, in actuality, the DHS is in serious trouble, it's understaffed, underbudgeted, and its capabilities are nowhere near where they're supposed to be and didn't it worry the producers at all that their depiction might give the viewing public a misleading impression of the agency? The producers were quick to assure that they relied upon purely factual information and real footage, having been granted unprecedented access to government facilities.

It seems that Tom Ridge has actually established an office in Hollywood for the express purpose of providing producers and directors with material for their portrayals of Homeland Defense procedures and personnel. Isn't that helpful? Moreover, all of their weekly scripts are submitted to the White House for comment. Evidently Karl Rove, with whom they've met personally to discuss programming, is very excited about the series.

I could scarcely believe my ears. Do these idiots not know what Karl Rove does for a living? Or do they imagine that, this being an election year, he's just got so much freetime at his disposal that he can afford to sit around and shoot the shit with Hollywood producers even though he has no actual professional interest in the content? These nimrods must realize that they are serving as the mindless propaganda organs of the administration, and yet it didn't seem to phase them in the least. Unbelievable. And you do realize, of course, that it is your taxpayer dollars that are funding the administration's evidently successful efforts to convert Hollywood into a propaganda organ? Oh, Leni Riefenstahl would be so proud if she could see us today!

I just bet karl's lace-trimmed panties are all moist at the thought of being able to showcase the brave men and women of DHS on network television, without having to cough up a cent of Dumya's campaign war chest.

:argh:
