I was driving home from the credit union after depositing my unemployment check when suddenly an ungodly crunch crunch crunch and a jolt like I'd been hit but no the transmission fell out or something...It happened near a bus stop with several people waiting, one helped me push it to the curb, I'm currently parked in a 15 minute spot...The engine runs fine, but put it in any gear and the car does not go! Tomorrow I get to decide where to tow it...I'm not going to get it fixed, it's pretty much dead...For months it's been acting like it wants to die, I dared not go over steep hills or freeways...just a local getabout car.
The car is 33 years old and in our family since 1982 and much more money has been spent maintaining and fixing it than was spent buying it! My Mom is going to help me buy another car but I thought I could keep this one running until then! And then I was planning to sell it (while it still ran) for 500 dollars. Oh well, it was inevitable ...at least I wasn't stuck in the boonies when it happened!
Here's what it looked like six years ago after my Dad and I spent a summer restoring and repainting it after a SUV backed into it and the insurance company considered it totalled...A 1977 Toyota Celica Liftback...
