Who is the best Character on Television?
Not necessarily your favorite, meaning you dont have to like them, but the best character. Let's go with first a show that is on now, and then also all time.

Mine is a tie with Kara Thrace and Benjamin Linus.

All time Id have to say Leo McGarry (though Josh Lyman is my fav).

I must have a thing for female villains because my second favorite 24 character was Dina from season 4. Arrested Development is one of my favorite shows....I liked Lucille and Buster.

17. they all are great on AD
Jeffrey Tambor in his dual characters, lol.

Dina was good. I like Mandy who was played by Mia Kirshner. 24 had some great characters, the writing fell off the last few years. It's tough to sustain that type of premise.

23. Niles Crane, definitely.
I thought David Hyde Pierce stole the show from Kelsey Grammar (who was quite funny too, no doubt).

I'm curious, pokerfan, do you happen to know what years/seasons David Hyde Pierce won the Emmy?

For this role, Pierce was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Emmy for a record eleven consecutive years, winning in 1995, 1998, 1999 and 2004.

32. Yup. The Valentine's Day episode.
Niles is at Frasier's place, getting ready for a big date, notices a tiny wrinkle in his trousers and being Niles has to take care of it, gets out an iron and iron board. Things go horribly wrong and he damn nears burns the place down.

All physical comedy and perfectly executed.

34. here's the video
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxIBk1a3qdQ (6:45)

Eddie the Dog was pretty good in it as well. If one has never seen this clip before, it matches anything Monty Python ever did. I only mention Monty Python because I always thought that the show had a bit of a British feel to it. In fact, a poll taken by the British Channel 4 of the sitcom industry voted Frasier the best sitcom of all time:

38. Kinda figured with your username you'd be familiar with Omar. He was originally slated for about six
appearances and then was scheduled to be killed off,or so I've read. But he was such a compelling character that he was kept on.The scene in Season I where he is wounded in his failed assassination attempt on Avon was most likely to have been his original exit from the show.

And Simon and Burns didn't let character override plot in their five season masterpiece. As popular and as charismatic as Stringer Bell was, when they felt his death was necessary for their story,he was gone.

Best TV ever,hands down.

Ben is a manipulative and creepy scumbag, but mesmerizing.

Locke is a tortured would-be hero/mystic who always falls victim to his own naivety.

The interplay is remarkable.

Currently I'd have to say Benjaimin Linus (Lost) or Michael Scott (The Office).

Ever, there are a few names that come to mind: Frank Pembleton (Homicide), Livia Soprano (The Sopranos), Stringer Bell (The Wire), D'Angelo Barksdale (The Wire), Frank Sobatka (The Wire), hell, let's just throw the entire cast of The Wire in there, Michael Bluth (Arrested Development), Tobias Funke (Arrested Development), and I know there are a couple more that will come to mind later.
