My wife and I just spent 178,000 dollars today!
Or more accurately, just spent a boatload of a bank's money in the form of an IOU and bought a house!
Pretty excited about it actually!

We bought this:

Spent the half the day cleaning, and I have to say WHAT IS WRONG WITH PEOPLE???
Good lord, it's clear these people must have had a deathly allergy to sponges, terrycloth and soap because yuck, yuck, yuck. You do not want to know what I found lurking beneath the stove top. Also found a very nasty, stinky bottle of Kentucky whiskey. I can't abide by whiskey, and certainly not Kentucky whiskey.

We've got three weeks to call the contractors, get some work done, call the family, get MORE work done and move all our stuff over there.

I'm wicked excited!!!

I'm no longer a renting stiff!!!

3. That house looks familiar.
Is this one you've been thinking about and posted before? I swear I've seen that place in the past. Weird.

Nice looking place, regardless. Congrats!

23. Bah. Wouldn't bother me. Our last apartment, the previous person committed suicide in our tub.
Never bothered me. The bugs however, did.

12. Thanks!
Our view is interesting. We're in Westbrook, and looking out our window, over the trees looms very large the SAPPI/Mother Warren mill. It no longer stinks, so it's just lights, pipes and the ever present smoke stack. Oddly, I love that view. I always enjoyed a view that was a combination nature/industry.

13. I can't imagine Westbrook without the scent of S.D. Warren.
Heck, we smelled it on the peninsula frequently enough. It's funny because other than the off-odors and the industrial areas it was a nice small town-ish place to live with some pretty neighborhoods.

Clean layout, but not boring. Amazing large inside, considering how small it looks outside!
We love it!

29. I tell ya I was SHOCKED how many papers we had to sign when we bought our house cash
after two mortgages, we paid cash for this one (selling at the height of the Arizona bubble gave us plenty to do so)

ready for it

3 papers, one signature each.

one for the land, one for the mobile home and one for the water co-op share.

that was it.

I had planned a couple hours that morning, took 8 minutes total
