Seriously, imagine having a bottle of canola oil. Pour it all into a pot and rub it into your skin, like suntan lotion. Then, using a foam brush, smear it on even thicker into every visible pore. Nasty job.

His legs are a little small, but he's really, really dry. He's likely hit the diuretics the last 24 hours. He's got shape to his calves (judging by his right one), but not much size I don't think. I'd want to see them from the back.

Is all that healthy? the diuretics and other stuff these guys and gals do to themselves has to mess their body chemistry up until they can get it stabilized again.

He looks like he's either a strong amateur or a pro natural (steroid tested competition). The level of diuretics they use going into competition can really screw with the kidneys. Plus the diet going into one is really f'd up. You can't have any salt for x days before. No carbs until x hours before, and that's only to keep from collapsing on stage (which happens pretty often). No water except what you need to stay alive.

The bigger shock comes right after the judging/award ceremony is over. They hose off, and then after following the most strict of diets for the past 4 months, they cram every sort of crap food down their throats. I'm amazed more of them aren't hospitalized for pancreatitis.

The only place he's going is a bodybuilding competition stage. He may have another application to put on, and it needs to be mixed in a bit better. Plus, once he starts to sweat it will blend a bit more.

20. I was thinking of the stage as public - what I'm wondering is whether he's

finished with his prep (aside from whipping off the shirt and shorts), or whether this is a picture from an intermediate stage of the tanning process. His tan is not going to soak in or be finished up to look like hers?

I guess the other question is, if this is the final result, he's not really trying for a 'natural' tan look - he wants colors and shades that look good under certain lights and accentuate his shapes? He's under no delusion that he's sporting a natural skin tone?

The other reason I think he's an amateur is because most pros have someone to do their tan work for them. When his tanner is soaked in and blended out, he should look like her tan does, yes.

No, there's no expectations of a "natural" tan look. It's about bringing out definition under heavy lights from a short distance and hiding blemishes on the skin. The tan helps to bring out shadow and definition (cuts, striation) in the musculature.
