1. I want ONION RINGS!!!!!!!!!!
Unfortunately, they're kinda unknown in this part of Switzerland, so if I want 'em, I've gotta make 'em myself. Not gonna happen. I have a spinach quiche in the oven for dinner, though. :stavin'@7:18pm: :weep:

I eat there 2-3 times on each week-long trip to So. CA. I have a friend who calls the tacos "cat-food tacos." We, my family, all call them "crappy tacos." We eat 'em by the bagsful.

34. I can top that
a popular local treat out here is manapua, buns stuffed with a meat filling, usually char siu (BBQ pork). "The Rock", who grew up here, says the one thing he misses is the lack of decent manapua on the mainland.

An enduring urban legend is that the filling is actually cat! :puke: :puke: :puke: One coworker feels he has to bring that up each and every time I have one.

19. Oh yeah....
I had a couple of friends that worked at the one near my house. It's a great first job...they pay really well for fast food. I liked getting mine "animal style", but they were always such a mess. A yummy delicious mess. I had a friend eat 2 triple-triples in one sitting, but he lived to regret it. Couldn't eat one for 6 months afterwards...

20. Yes indeed. They are here in Philadelphia.
A couple of places do beer battered fries. And Guy Fieri has mentioned them on Dinners, Drive ins and Dives.

I don't think he's talked about the duck fat though. Not too many people do that.

Frying in pork fat is good to.

26. I grew up eating things fried in bacon fat.
In fact, I think some of the cholesterol in my arteries is from 1967.

I would find Guy Fieri's show interesting if he didn't irritate the living shit outta me. :)

33. Ah, bacon fat.
The food of the gods. It's part of the holy trinity - Goose, Duck, Bacon

Someone did a study recently and they discovered that those three fats are better for you than butter. And you can wash duck fat or goose fat off of your hands with cold water.

11. Here's a substitute
*This is me trying NOT to pay attention to the pizza joint thread* :eyes:

In the grocery store frozen section, look for wedges that you can BAKE.

Spread them out on a cookie sheet and bathe in a little olive oil and seasoning of your choice.

Put them in the oven on relatively high heat until they start browning really well. It's the brown that makes the taste.

Take them out and cover with ketchup or whatever floats yer boat.

Not really low cal, but not that bad either.

13. sounds like a fair deal
Would steak fries be acceptable? I mean, are the wedges just plain potato wedges? Because I figure steak fries are probably pre-fried, defeating the porpoise. Hmm.

15. Yeah, steak fries are ok
Most are pre-fried to a certain degree. It's worth it to read label and get ones done in peanut or olive oil.

Another alternative is to do the same with sweet potato fries or wedges.

24. Then lower the temp
it means they are cooking a little too fast.

Now, they aren't *exactly like french fries. But they will satisfy that craving.

Diets are really about substitutions you can live with.
