Once again, boy bands say 'bye, bye, bye'
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/4448803/

Hello (hello hello hello) — any boy bands out there? Just a few years ago the charts and airwaves were dominated by the pop stylings of ‘N Sync, Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees and lesser boyish lights like O-Town and Five. Where did those precision drill teams of harmonizing heartthrobs go?

After Nick Carter’s '02 solo bomb “Now or Never” (it was “never”), Backstreet Boys have reunited and are back in the studio, but it remains to be seen if they can recapture previous glory — the odds are long against them. All of the other “bands” (singing ensembles, to be more precise) have gone bye-bye-bye, and Justin Timberlake is the only certified star to have emerged from the era.

While “Schizophrenic,” the solo debut of Timberlake’s ‘N Sync-mate J.C. Chasez (pronounced sha-zay), enters the album chart this week at No. 17 after selling a respectable 52,000 copies, fans clutched 439,000 first-week copies of Timberlake’s “Justified” in their sweaty little hands when it debuted 16 months ago.

Chasez has spent much of the last 10 years toiling gamely in his friend Timberlake’s shadow since they appeared together on “The New Mickey Mouse Club” in the early '90s. In keeping with the theme, Chasez’s own duties as halftime entertainer at the Pro Bowl were the first casualty of Timberlake’s notorious breast-revealing Super Bowl halftime stunt with Janet Jackson. It figures.

2. I'm still waiting for one of them to have a "Pet Sounds" moment
When suddenly one of the members has inspiration from nowhere and locks himself (or herself) in a room and comes out a month later, unshaven with the score for the next "Pet Sounds"

Just like Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys (which was the prototype for boy bands)

3. One problem...
I don't think any of the present-day hacks can even read music or play a single instrument. At least the Beach Boys had some semblance of musical training.

I think the odds of what you're waiting for are about as long as 700 chimps sitting in front of 700 typewriters putting together the works of Shakespeare.

4. True I hope in vain...but keep in mind
The Beatles really didn't know how to play in '63. Ever hear some of those boots? John has said that at those Cavern shows he never knew how to even tune his guitar right...

9. Thats a tough sell
They were not considered very good when they first went to Hamburg but they used that time to get very tight. They played something like 8 hours a day for 6 days a week and came back home to explode in Liverpool. They didn't suck when they backed Rory Storm on "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean."

By 1963 they already had some number one hits in England and were just about to explode in the states.

Lennon didn't know how to tune his guitar but Paul and George both did. There is a lot of urban legend type stuff about how the Beatles were prefabricated. It couldn't have been farther from the truth. Brian Epstein wasn't even in the record business and George Martin didn't produce music at the time. They barely got a record contract. Their success was genuine and was because of their writing as well as their tight playing and tremendous energy.

5. That may be correct in some cases...
...but JC Chasez's new Cd is chock full of amazing influences. Sting, Prince, there's even some 80's electronica in there. I mean the guy really can sing. It's just unfortunate he didn't do aswell as Justin Timberlake did. Considering Timberlake used the best of the best and barely wrote/co-wrote any of the songs in his CD.

6. Yeah, just because they're boy bands, doesn't mean they don't
have talent.

I do, however, think that Justin can really sing--much better than most of the posers out today.

7. I've only liked one of the newer ones
BBMak does good bubblegum stuff - like the modern-day Monkees.

Maybe JC Chasez's style just isn't for me, but I wasn't impressed at all. Also am not big on Justin Timberlake.
