8. That's when I got my permit the first time
It had snowed recently. I ended up driving on the sidewalk.

2. At 14 I bought my first car.
It was a 1938 Plymouth and my dad was sure it wouldn't run but it would be a good car on which to learn auto mechanics. I paid $35.00 for it. It took a day to get it running.

A friend talked me into driving it over to his house. I'd never driven before. I'm really lucky to have survived that summer.

14. Yowser!
That must have some time ago.

$35! Even for a broken car, that's not much money.

I talked my girlfriend into letting me drive her car around a park. Been hitting little old ladies ever since.

6. 8 years old - tractor
I drove the tractor all over our property. It was great training, even more so because it had a clutch and manual steering.

9. I was 24 before I first drove and got my
license, I have a learning disability which made it very difficult for me to drive at 16.

Actually, it's still a bit more difficult for me to drive than for a lot of other people, I have to do what I call "double-dip concentration", in other words, concentrate twice as hard.

I'll never forget how terrified I was when I first drove, and then how exhilarating it was to finally conquer that fear and everyone else's fear and doubts about my ability to drive, and finally get my license and not have to depend on others to drive me around in my 20's, which was becoming a real pain in the ass, especially for my boyfriend at the time, lol!

10. I was almost that old when I got my license
I was 23 years old 10 months. I got my first permit when I was 16 years old and even went through driver's ed. I tried the test but failed. Then my parent's financial situation worsened and they did not want we to drive. They did not want me to work either since I was suppose to be concentrating on school and related activities to impress the colleges and get big scholarships. College was on a relatively small campus but near a shopping district so I did not see the need to drive. Before my college senior year though, my husband urged me to get a permit and I tried driving a few times. When I was 23, I had to get another permit and decided that I really needed to learn to drive because it was limiting my job opportunities. Driving is one of my untalents and I passed on the fourth try. I still get nervous driving in busy traffic and prefer to let my husband drive.

11. I was 23 before I got my first car and license
The only reason that happened is because my brother was being stationed over in Germany and wanted someone to take over the payments for his car, a 1981 AMC Spirit. Oh I loved that car!

So, if I was going to have a car then I needed to know how to drive it. A friend took up the unenviable task of teaching me how to drive.
