road rage in the supermarket . . .
I was out tonight picking up a few things at the local supermarket . . . as I was shopping near the front of the store, there was a guy at one of the express checkouts arguing with the cashier over a check . . . apparently his name was on a list of people not to accept checks from, and he wasn't happy . . . the cashier called over the store manager, who was a rather meek looking bald guy with glasses . . . he apparently confirmed that they couldn't accept the check, and the guy stormed out of the store . . .

not two minutes later the guy returns and starts laying into the store manager with a whole dictionary of vile obscenities and in an extremely loud and obnoxious manner . . . called him everything from a bald-headed prick to a mfer, and right in front of the many women and children who were in line and looked terrified . . . one woman was brave enough to say something like "Excuse me, there are children here," to which the guy responded with an angry "Fuck you!" . . . this went on for a good five minutes, while everyone just stood there with their mouths agape . . . when he realized that someone had called the cops, the made his final exit, cursing a blue streak all the way out the store . . .

this guy was so angry and vile that is was truly scary to watch . . . I don't think I've ever seen anyone lose it so completely and so publicly . . . something I hope I never witness again . . .

1. Remember that case in Michigan (I think) a few years ago
when a guy was actually charged for swearing in front of children?
Turns out it's illegal there.

5. Yes, I do!
I believe he was upset because he fell out of a canoe and got wet or something! I think he had to pay some fine.

The guy in the store sounds scary. Hopefully, he won't come back with a weapon.

The Michigan Supreme Court threw that law out.

6. One of the things I remember from business school
is that customers who get extremely irate over a check are almost always trying to float a bad one.

8. I witnessed something similar...
walking into Kroger last night. At this point the perp was at the customer service counter and was furious. I'm not sure what this one's problem was, but when "cops" came up, he turned to his little girl and ordered her to come along. He then turned back to the manager and warned him to be on the look-out for him to return.

That's a little too much excitement for a trip to the grocery store!

9. He might have been another BFEE victim.
Out of work, unemployment benefits have run out, no medical insurance, car and house payments past due and a wife and kids to feed. Smirky has pinned him up against the wall and the guy is at the end of his rope. I don't try to excuse this guy's behavior because it was a horrible way to act in public, especially in front women and children. But maybe, just maybe, four years ago he was a different kind of person.

although I have heard checkout rage used in the news, that's just another term for asshole too, it's a shame we can't admit there are assholes running around (or is that jogging rage)

12. When I Opened This Thread
I thought it was going to be an incident over those SUV shopping carts they have now, for people with kids. I HATE those things! Supermarkets made wider aisles because their consumer research said we like that, so why did they fuck it up by putting those lane-hogs in?

15. I think the little kids should be in front of the carts
unprotected, they'd be a little more careful about where they're swinging those things if that were the case.

18. Shopping carts.
I also thought that was going to be the subject of this thread. I have been on the receiving end of "road rage" with my shopping cart in the supermarket. And people wonder why I never drive a car.

14. damn... I'm sorry you had to experience that
I know how you feel, having confronted an angry man in the pharmacy who was screaming at the pharmacist because of the price of a prescription; I told him, "She doesn't set the prices, sir," and he whirled on me and yelled, "Shut up, bitch!" and turned back to the pharmacist and continued his tirade. Threw something at her and stomped off w/out his drugs. December 23. Lots of people in line. The pharmacist was crying.

Mofo asshole.

16. I deal with it all the time.
I work at Rite Aid, and a lot of the times if someone isn't happy, the person behind the counter suffers all the abuse.
If I could say just one thing to everyone, it would be- please be POLITE to cashiers! They sacrifice a lot of their time and energy in a thankless job that does not pay very much.

17. Good thing this guy apparently didn't have easy access to a firearm...
Because he sounds like the loosest of cannons, just brimming over with impotent rage.

I can't stand to see anyone lose it like this in a public place -- these apeshit displays make me sick to my stomach.

But I'd say that was the most minor of this guy's 'infractions.'

That's because you don't live under the evil pieces of white shit in the apartment above me!

I've posted to the Lounge before about their antics. Well, on Saturday they were at it again, having yet another screaming match with the woman in the parking lot and the man leaning out the window.

I was taking my regular after-work nap on Saturday when that woman's loud, obscenity-filled screams woke me up. I was so pissed off, I sat up in bed and yelled toward the open window, "Shut the fuck up, you dumb cunt!"

All of a sudden, the man was compelled to defend her honor. "Hey! That's my son's mother you're talking to, ya fuckin' faggot!"

I yelled back, "Then I feel sorry for your son!"

He but loose with another string of "fuckin' faggot" this and "fuckin' faggot" that, but by that time, I'd had enough and closed the window.

Turns out, the guy who lives in the apartment next door to me was also in the parking lot, working on his car. Per a conversation we had in the hallway later that day, he promised to complain to the superintendent about those losers. And no, the guy next door didn't hold my own outburst against me.

"If anything," he said, "I'm surprised it took you this long to finally lose your cool with those idiots. If they lived upstairs from me, I'd have lost it months ago!"

I hope more people complain about those animals upstairs. Maybe then the owners will finally get the message and evict their asses!

24. Glad they called the cops
I had a customer at a very small bank I worked at that was a sexist, racsist pig. He starting in about the two managers being women and my fellow teller being asian. "Whadda got hired year, the whole third world?"

I was coming back from my break and could hear this jerk. He walked over to my window because I guess he figuered me being a white male, he could "trust" me. With a twinkle in my eye (and my manager was grinning ear to ear because she KNEW I would pull something), I said: "Can I'a help'a you with'a your deposit, senior?"

We never saw him again.
