do you think it would be appropriate to ask for some pain killers after

the last time I had fillings, it was a week before the pain subsided

I am a HUGE baby and am already shaking just thinking about my appointment in less than 24 hours

1. Dentists don't generally give you the "good stuff"
You'll probably be just as well off with over the counter meds, which may take a few doses before you start to see relief.

I would recommend taking 800mg Ibuprofen every 6 hours. You should start to see relief in a day or two and you can start taking them now.

The stuff that dentists prescribe generally has a very small dose of some type of opiate derivative and a large dose of a NSAIDs like ibuprophen or acetaminophen. You actually get most of your relief from the NSAID and you can get that over the counter (or you probably already have some).

You can't really overdose the prescription meds because the high dosage of NSAID can really cause serious health problems (although some druggies do anyway).

Most dentists will prescribe them if you ask and many people do.

2. It will be alright!
Plus you will be very relieved when it is over and your teeth stop hurting.

The dentist is your friend!

4. Ask for the pain pills
Tell your dentist about how long it took you to get over the pain the last time.

6. Just be calm and realize they want to fix your teeth
:-)

I waited a long time to get my dental work done that I needed. (About 7 years)

When it was over I literally hugged my dentist because I knew life was going to be a lot better afterwards.
