Your cheapest Valentine's day celebration.
Ours was about 10 years ago. A 90-something-year-old uncle had given us gift certificates to Cracker Barrel for Christmas. Definitely not our cup of tea but it was free so we went there. Money was really tight that year, which is the usual case following birthday and holiday season and our anniversary is right after Christmas, but that year it was squeaky tight. When we got there we went into the gift shop and read the cards and picked out one for each other, which we read, then put back on the shelf. Then after that we were seated and we drew pictures of what we would give each other if we had the money. Then our "gourmet" food arrived. We happened to look around at the clientele and I am not sure why but almost everyone in there was either handicapped or morbidly obese. The real cap to the meal was when the morbidly obese guy at the table next to us let out a long loud fart. The woman with him didn't even look up and they both just kept on eating. Apparently this was a common occurrence at meals, however, it provided the foul humor for our evening.

Two cheapo gifts I have given over the years have included putting red lipstick on the kids when they were little and letting them kiss a piece of paper, which I framed and gave to my husband. The other was I wrote down all the things I liked about him, cut each one out in a strip, rolled it up and put them in a jar. He was instructed to take one out to read every day or whenever.

Happy Cheap Valentines Day, DUers.
