So the ass that took that picture of Phelps.
First he gets Phelps into shit with his sponsers and on the news. NOW the hillbilly sheriff is arresting people that went to that party.
Seriously how many people are looking to kick this guys ass now? I mean if the sheriff came and arrested me cause I was at a party with Michael Phelps and its all cause some asshole wanted to sell a photo to a tabloid? Me and the others who got arrested would be lookin to kick the crap out of this guy.

1. I'm more worried about Sheriff Assmunch going all Mike Nifong over this.
Are there no real crimes to fight in wherever the hell he is?

2. I wouldn't be looking to kick his ass
I'd be saying to myself, "Wow - doing something illegal while someone's taking pictures was really, really, really fucking dumb, especially since I have millions of dollars in sponsorships, advertising, and competition at stake."

Not the photographer's fault here. That's a Bush kind of defense - "Well, it's the fault of the person who caught us!"

6. Didn't it take place years before the advertising contracts?
Not sure... thought I read that though.

7. Oh, I don't know - if that's the case, then I cut him some slack.
I had thought it was a recent photo.

But I trust your word that it's an older pic - I was surprised by the amount of hair on him in the photo, and being done years ago is a good explanation for that.

10. Nope, it's not.
Wherever I read that, it was wrong... I just checked and it was a few months ago.

18. Well, then. Photo guy carries little guilt/responsibility in this one.
Yeah, he's a dick for taking advantage of a situation.

But, Phelps - Jesus man, use your head. This ain't the photographer's fault at all.

12. I agree. Phelps is the one with everything to lose.
You have to really watch your back when you are in his shoes. If you want to smoke pot, better make sure you got some trusty pals around. And no camera.

16. Phelps never apologized for illegal drug use.
He apologized for "inappropriate behavior".

That statement covers a broad range of activities. It would be inappropriate for a sports superstar to pretend to use drugs. It would be inappropriate in this day and age for someone like Phelps to smoke tobacco...from a bong or otherwise.

17. He never mentioned the words "marijuana", "pot", or "weed"
Edited on Thu Feb-12-09 08:00 PM by crimsonblue
The statement he put out undoubtedly went through his lawyer's office first to make sure that no specific admission of guilt was present. Apologizing for doing something stupid and for letting down your fans is not an admission of smoking pot.

15. I don't think they were simply arresting them over the photo
It's been a couple of days since I read about it, but I think the sheriff searched/questioned the people who held and attended the party, found weed on some of them and arrested them for possession.

So if anyone gets arrested, he should be first, don't you think?

It's much easier to go after the low-hanging fruit than to really accomplish something, isn't it sheriff? :eyes:
