Poll question: Your Favorite Gaming Console
I know, it's geeky. Some consoles are sentimental to me. Just today, I bought a used Dreamcast off of ebay because when I was in the Navy it was a cheap way for my friends and I to keep busy and not kill ourselves. It was a fun, but short lived, system. Great games.

So which system is near and dear to your heart?

Obviously, I have to leave a few out of the poll so if one's not listed just check other and explain.

7. We had a super nintendo with Mortal Kombat two.
about 6 of us would gather every day and smoke weed, eat pizza, and play. and we played for BLOOD!!! It was always winners keep playing and the loser has to pass his controller to the person waiting to play. That was the last time I was really into video games console. I used to play Descent on PC but I played so much I would wear out $75.00 joysticks so I gave it up.

34. I'm big into MAME and have 6,000 games
From everything I read, MvsC2 is not yet emulated due to the complexity of the CPS3 board. But it really doesn't matter since the Dreamcast version had greater replay value (hidden characters).

Speaking of the emulation/rom/iso scene. There is a free and dedicated Dreamcast website where you can download cdi's (self boot images) which can be burned to standard blank CD's fairly easy. I made 3 last night. No need to modify the Dreamcast - just stick the cd-r in and bam, I was playing Street Fighter 3: Third Strike.

16. PS2
the PS2, pound for pound, is still the best gaming console in my view...

I hate the fact, that the PS3 added a blu-ray player, and has the iffy last gen/previous gen playback ability....I know some PS3's have last gen playability(but you gotta pay steep for it)...

The price tag for the PS3 is an utter joke...I don't plan on going to blu ray, until THEY force me to, as in all the dvd's for sale, are blu ray...400 bucks for a low end PS3?....

Count me out...granted, I've played the ps3, and I enjoy it, but I'm not willing to dish out the 400 bucks for it...

32. I got mine for $265.00
Target had a one day sale back around Christmas. I got an 80 gig PS3 for $265.00. I only have three games right now, GTA4, Fallout 3 and Call of Duty - World at War but they are all pretty sweet. I want to pick up the Sonic Collection that just came out, 40 old games for $30 and I'm also really in the mood for a good hockey game, gotta see what they have but... I'm pretty happy with it right now.

44. damn, thats a good price
I mean, my limit for one is 200 or so...I got my ps2 for 200 and I had to fight myself the whole time, before getting it.

I've played GT4, GHWT, Oblivion, and a few others for the PS3, and really...was'nt that impressed.

Oblivion was good, GT4 I didn't care for, and I"m a HUGE GT fan...Guitar Hero World Tour was good, I love the wireless guitar, and the fact that they made the game a little easier than Guitar Hero III...

The Madden games suck, I had 08, it blew...MLB the Series 07 was good, but not 400 dollars good...if you catch my drift, :D

I so, want to play Gears of War but sadly its only on xbox...Resistance looks good though...I haven't branched out much for the ps3 but I've played some of them pretty extensively, and just wasn't wowed to the point, where I had to sell my soul for the ps3.

SNES for me. It had TOP GEAR! Name entirely coincidental, that was just a fun game to learn and a better game to master.

Edited on Thu Feb-12-09 02:19 AM by Lucian
I was always able to buy a new game every time I turned around. The games were way more affordable and more enjoyable to play than a lot of today's games.

Edited to add that Super Metroid was my favorite game for the SNES, with Chrono Trigger in second. All the Donkey Kong Country games come in at number three on my list. They all bring back great memories...

Edited on Thu Feb-12-09 01:39 PM by Forkboy
Some of the games on that were better than the same games on the PS2 and XBox, and it was $100 cheaper. A very under-appreciated system.

I played all these on the "Cube".

Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes
Super Monkey Ball 2 (great party game!)
Timesplitters 2
Metroid Prime (awesome game)
Animal Crossing
Pikmin 2
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Resident Evil 4

There's others that I'm forgetting. I had a PS2 and Gamecube at the same time, and for a long stretch my Gamecube saw far more action. If it wasn't for Madden and the NHL games I would have barely used the PS2 at all. :)

39. For sheer quality and quantity of games the SNES is the best, hands down, imo.
Edited on Thu Feb-12-09 01:26 PM by Forkboy
There's more classics on that system than you can shake a stick at. Some of the best RPGs ever made graced the SNES, and they continually upped the gaming ante. Final Fantasy, Chrono Trigger, Might and Magic, Front Mission...not to mention the Mario games, which are just fun dammit. And I don't really even like platformers.

Plus, unlike consoles today, they actually had games in multiple genres. You could find actual strategy games on it even (GASP!). All the Koei games like Romance of the Three Kingdoms (new ones are ok), Genghis Khan, Nobunaga's Ambition, PTO...they were all there. The XBox and PS2-3? Maybe three strategy games....combined. You're lucky to even have one watered down Civ game.

To the PS1's credit they tried a lot of things early on, before all the consoles settled on either shooters, racing games, or endless GTA ripoffs. The PS1 had games like Panzer General (I played it on the PC, but credit to the PS1 for doing it).

Nintendo has constantly surprised people. The Gamecube was actually a decent system (Metroid: Prime anyone?), and to Nintendo's credit they try a lot of different ideas that the others don't touch. The Wii is sheer genius, and the market share it's getting shows that a ton of people agree.

I can find great points about almost every system (YAY for the Atari ST!!), but to me the SNES really offered it all, and at the time that was cutting edge stuff. Worse graphics, better games.

48. Worse graphics, better games - that pretty much is Nintendo these days
And I'm not complaining. Give me better gameplay rather than complex rendering and "realistic" backgrounds. It's a fucking video game - of course it's unrealistic.

The Madden games seem to be going down this road - sacrificing gameplay for graphics and extra bullshit.

Of course HALO, Gears of War & Left 4 Dead rule me HARD. Yeah, I like shooting things in the face, wanna fight about it? Looking forward to the new Street Fighter 4 game. It looks bloody gorgeous! So many great games coming out this year.

Waiting for the PS3 price drop & what other exclusives drop for them this year. Killzone 2 is looking mighty fine. God of War 3 should be epic on the PS3.

I got custom firmware on my PSP so that's what I use for SNES, Sega, MAME games. I got a guy getting me a metric shit-ton of Capcom & Neo-Geo games for the PSP. Can't wait to be playing Marvel VS Capcom on my PSP!

I have my copy reserved. I love the 360 - it's the best gaming system since the fall of the Dreamcast. I would think more favorably towards the Wii if most of the games didn't suck donkey balls. Plus, the 360 has the netflix application which makes it just about as perfect as perfect gets these days.
