Gevalia coffee, opinions?
I live in a small town and don't have access to good coffee beans. Does anyone have any experience with Gevalia? Any other recommendations?

4. According to their literature
they do.

I'm looking for what I call weekend coffee. During the week when coffee is mainly used as a way to get us awake and going I don't mind using what I can buy locally. I'm looking for good coffee for weekend mornings when you have the time to enjoy it.

3. Good coffee, but expensive
You can probably order good coffee online for less.

5. Good and Expensive
And if you use less than 2lb a month, you really have to work with them to make sure they don't send you more than you can use up at a time.

If you're just looking for weekend stuff, you might want to tell them you only want a bimonthly or quarterly delivery.

6. what I know about it
I don't think Gevalia is good coffee; I think it is just marketed to the hilt.

I recently bought some at Trader Joe's. It had some type of additive in it and it made me sick beyond belief. Every morning I awoke feeling like I had a hangover.

I knew this had to be something new that I'd added to my diet and so the first thing I stopped drinking was the Gevalia. Within a few days, I was back to normal.

I took the coffee back to TJ's to complain. The clerk said, "I don't even know why we're carrying it. It's not any good." I don't know whether the clerk knows what he is talking about but I do notice that TJ's is no longer carrying it.

Why not shop online and see if you can find some good coffee purveyors there?

I do not, for obvious reasons, recommend Gevalia.

7. DON'T DO IT!
I ordered some for the free coffee maker. It totally sucks. Worst tasting crap I've ever had. Try http://www.peets.com Peet's coffee from San Fransisco is about the best I've ever head. It's all my wife and I drink.

8. The Breakfast Blend was my FAVORITE....
....but it's waaay to expensive...I'm still usin' my thermal pot coffee maker they sent me with my first order...only 15.00 s&h included...great deal to start with but couldn't keep buyin' it...I drink too much coffee and those small .5lb packages are waaaay to pricey...I drink Community Coffee ~Between Roast...it's a Louisiana product and it's much more affordable and tastes EXCELLENT too!

10. NOOOO GEVALIA SUCKS!!!! Here are some links to better coffee
Trust me - I am a coffee snob!

Peets: http://www.peets.com/shop/shop.asp

Very strong coffee if you're into that. Very dark roasts, and very flavorful

Allan Brothers: http://www.allannbroscoffee.com/index.html

They make some excellent blends. Breakfast at 11 is one of my faves. Not as strong as Peets, but much more flavorful that Starbucks.

The Planet: http://www.planetroasters.com/

Canadian Roaster that has Cuban Coffee (banned in the US.) Like their cigars, one of the best coffees in the world. Very low in acidity, very high in flavor. Call them to order and let them know you want "Barney's Special."

11. Agree totally. Fortunately I live in LA, so I can go to Peets or TJ's
with no problem. But in a prior existence I too ordered Gevalia for the coffee maker. Bleah! & I gave them several tries, to make sure it wasn't a fluke. Nasty, overpriced stuff.

12. Wow...Peets has made it to LA?
Awesome! I hope they never lose their Bay Area style however. They are a Berkeley tradition, along with Peoples Park and Bicycle Rights.

I reccommend that you try Cuban coffee - it is no more expensive than Peets, and it is comparable with Pure Kona or Jamaican Blue Mountain (before they ruined it.)

15. Hmmmm, bay area style? How about the Pasadena Lake Ave
shoppin district? Doesn't quite look like Berkeley - okay, I take it back. There's a mountain outlet store across the street, a Baskin-Robbins, buncha book stores, and one of Pasadena's great restaraunts, Pie'n' Burger
http://www.pasadenacitycenter.com/dining/readReview.asp?id=1807
and there's a Wild Oats next door, and a few doors down an English tearoom. I think that does sound like Berkeley.

Thanks for the tip on cuban coffee - I may give it a shot, although Trader Joe generally keeps me happy.

16. LA definitely has it's style
I love Venice and the Claremont area...never been to Pasadena Lake Ave...

It's just that Berkeley is, well, different. Very different. If you've never been you have to come here.

18. I know the area, although not well -
my nephews live there, so I've visited a few times. Reminds me a bit of the U district next to UW in Seattle, my favorite place, since I went to grad school there. ~sigh~. The Magus Bookstore, truly a great used bookstore.

13. A post of agreement with others - go with Peets
or Starbucks - I like Starbucks.

Though personally, since I have a store that roasts its own coffee just a few blocks away, I buy that. (Fairway Supermarket - and yes, they make EXCELLENT coffee)
