Mozilla Firefox Kicks so much ass on IE, that
Edited on Fri Mar-05-04 04:47 PM by Jack_Dawson
I'm having trouble forming sentences. Popups no more. Tabbed browsing. What was I ever thinking using Internet Explorer as my browser?

1. It is a Nice Browser
It's the only one I use, too. Mine is the older-named FireBird, but same difference. I even downloaded it at work, it is great. The only thing is manually installing the plug-ins, but Mozilla has detailed instructions on how to accomplish it. I also use their Thunderbird mail program, which is cool.

6. Dunno - other than Firefox is newer...
and probably has fewer bugs.

7. Everything kicks ass on IE...
but I still prefer Opera.

No real problem with Moz, just a matter of taste and what I'm used to.

One of these days Moz may just take over the whole browser business. It works great on Macs, too, and is native to Linux.

8. How about transfering favorites?...
I was mucho confused about how to do that on my last forray into Mozilla. I'd like to switch, I'm pretty fed up with the whole MS thang.

10. It automatically imports them
Go to "Bookmarks" and trace down to "Imported IE Favorites"

9. It's hard to get used to at first,
you know, having a browser that works. A lot of poeple don't even think a browser can work this well.

I love Mozilla, I always have, since it was netscape. When Netscape 6 came out I followed Mozilla. Glad to see people are coming around, I think it will be the next big browser too, it's having a slow start though.

13. How do Imake tabbed browsing the default, rather than
...opening up new windows?

And now do I make Mozilla the browser that opens when I open my Hotmail account from MSN Messenger?

15. You can just right click the link and then left click
on "open in new tab". I never figured out how to make it default to that, but it's not that big a bother. What? an extra 1/2 second?

21. One step
If you use a wheel or 3 button mouse click it to open tab in one step.
Took me quite a while to discover it.

Microsoft sucks!

19. requirements, well _ I'm using a p1 tweaked with a 233MMX
Edited on Sat Mar-06-04 04:54 AM by ConcernedCanuk
.
.
.

The Pentium 1 was only 166 until I "rammed' in the 233MMX

anyhoo . .

I prefer Mozilla 1.6 to Firefox

you can't close all the tabs in Mozilla 1.6 by accident, in Firefox, if you accidentally hit the "x" to close the window, and you have 4-5, whatever, tabs on the go - everything just disappears. After a couple of times of THAT happening in fireFox, I went back to Mozilla 1.6 !.

- OH - and FireFox wouldn't import my bookmarks from IE, 1.6 did, but maybe Firefox wouldn't do the import thing because I already had 1.6 , -

anyhoo . .

Mozilla 1.6 gives you a warning before closing all your tabs , - -

also, I find that Mozilla 1.6 seems to be more user friendly - but that's just my opinion

Either way

IE hardly ever gets used at all anymore on this old Pentium 1

I am "with" these Mozilla junkies !!

:silly:

oh, and if one happens to be "addicted' to IE, but likes the tabbed browser thing, ther's another program called Crazy Browser that works on top of IE that also has a user-friendly pop-up killer.

CrazyBrowser is also free, and only a tiny program of about 6Meg - only a 5 minute download on an old modem on dial-up - just a "blink" for most of you high-speed and cable ppl, and not even a bump in most hard-drive spaces

17. tried it
I downloaded Firefox as a result of reading this thread. It's absolutely fantastic. Access to your IE bookmarks is right there--so easy. The plug-ins are no big deal since they make it easy to install them.

Thanks for posting about this. I really needed to dump IE.

18. tabbed browsing?
Well, if you actually want to have to look at your browser all the time, I guess that's okay.

Me, I hit F11 (fullscreen mode) with both top and bottom task bars set to auto hide. I never see a trace of browser unless I want to.

alt-tab is at least as good as tabs, and doesn't clutter up my screen.

I HATE screen clutter.
