2. Streetsweeping is a waste of taxpayers money
Boston, Cambridge and the cities around here make money towing cars and ticketing them during parking bans when street sweeping is scheduled. All that the sweeping machine does is blow the dirt, garbage and leaves into people's front yards, stoops and on the sidewalks. It's a scam.

4. They're right up there with leaf-blowers
The city of San Diego used to ticket people who didn't move their cars on street-sweeping day, but it turned out not to be worth the hassle. So many tickets were issued and so many people fought them in court the city gave up a few years ago and now just post signs in every neighborhood saying which day of the month the bristle-dropping behemoths are scheduled for.

6. Only one good thing about them
They occasionally drop pieces of the brush bristles, which are made of high-quality carbon steel. As an amateur metalsmith I've found them very useful for shims and special tools. They can be easily fashioned into lock picks too.
