Teacher Suspended For Showing 'Passion' To Sixth Graders
:puke:

<snip>

As a teacher showed sixth-graders at the District's Malcolm X Elementary School parts of the movie "The Passion of the Christ," 11-year-old Cutairra Ransom was growing upset by the violence unfolding in front of her.

"I saw Jesus getting beaten," Cutairra said yesterday. "Needles were going in his arms. It was scary the way they was beating him."

She added: "It made me feel really bad, terrible."

After about 15 minutes of watching the R-rated film about the final hours of Jesus's life, Cutairra said she walked out of the room.

3. What on EARTH made that teacher think this was a smart thing?
Goodness...you teach in a PUBLIC SCHOOL for crying out loud. Save the preaching for your personal time.

8. D.C.
I'm assuming from the snip that "the District" refers to the District of Columbia.

15. and you missed the greatest of ironies
the School is Malcom X Elementary. Talk about not getting it. And where is MPAA complaining about copywrite and age-appropriate material?

20. The viewing was then followed by a lecture by George Smith
Edited on Fri Mar-05-04 12:41 PM by Az
Author of The Case Against God. He laid out the fallacies of the arguments for god before the children in easy to understand language.

Yeah, like that could happen.

7. This is ridiculous and inappropriate...
I've come to grips with the idea that some people are gonna show this movie to young kids despite the violence...hell, I've walked into plenty of violent r-rated movies where dipshits had brought their little ones. The part that continually amazes me is that they're taking them to a movie that is all in subtitles...cause you know kids have the attention span for movies with subtitles. :eyes:

Sorry. I'll come down off my own personal little soapbox long enough to say that this teacher should have her ass handed to her.

10. Wrong on so many levels.
1) Church and State
2) Extreme violence
3) Age appropriateness

13. Man this is terrible!
How could they suspend that poor Christian woman??

It is just another example of our left-wing, liberal run school system and media oppressing the decent hard-working people of this country who feel it is important to show sixth graders images of Jesus being beaten and tortured.

And another thing... *can't stop laughter*

OK.. enough of that. I can't believe I got that far with a straight face.

Seriously.. what a fragging idiot. She should be fired.

18. Poor Christian man. . .
The teacher's name is Ronald. Just to be accurate and all. (Anal-retentive former editor hides head and waits for flames.)

I can't wait for Jack Valenti to go all copyright-mad over his ass, 'cause this guy must have bootlegged something. (If it lasted at least 15 minutes, I doubt we're talking clips downloaded from the Web.)

The Passion of the Inquistion. Just so we all know the lengths to which Christ's disciples are willing to go to enforce their faith.

19. That teacher is lucky my child isn't in her class
Could you imagine? I would've been the biggest bitch she ever came across if my child had been in that classroom. The entire school board would be hearing from me, this is unacceptable. Completely unacceptable.

21. But it's educational...
Or at least that's the excuse my mom gave me when she said she was taking my younger sibs to this movie (they're a little older than 6th grade, but not much). This is the same woman that wouldn't let me see a PG-13 movie until I was 17... I guess I just don't understand why a movie about Jesus makes a violent movie ok for younger viewers.

23. Don't know why
I'm still capable of being surprised at others' stupidity. :eyes:

What was this teacher thinking?

Separation of Church and State - Hello? Anybody home? Guess not.

Bootleg copy of the film - ermm. Who was sitting in the theatre w/ the camera recording the event?

Wrong age group - this is not a film for kids.

Malcolm X elementary school - eh. I hope he's turning over in his grave. But I wouldn't be surprised to know that the kids in that school know nothing about him.

SE DC, along with the surrounding MD 'burbs, is loosely known as "Anacostia", and is an area with a hell of a lot of problems. Poverty, prostitution, drug/substance abuse, crime, dilapidated and burned out buildings. Any sign of urban decay you can name, it's there.

On the bright side there's plenty of convenience and liquor stores selling lottery tickets. :eyes:

I always found it extremely poignant that this exists right under not just the shadow of the Capitol, but underneath its very nose. You only have to drive a couple of blocks from the Capitol to experience the other DC.

The worst crime of all? This teacher is NOT HELPING any of it with showing this film to her class. That student was right to walk out.
