You Know I Have To Admit - Clay Aiken Ain't That Bad
Edited on Fri Mar-05-04 08:47 AM by Magic Rat
So I went to the concert last night. Kelly Clarkson opened the show and she was relatively painless in the 50-minute set she did.

Then Clay Aiken came in through the crowd and the Nassau Coliseum went NUTS. You would have thought the Beatles had just walked in.

He came out singing an old 80's song - I forget the name of it or who orignially recorded it, but part of the refrain sounds something like this...

"Bedidity Elaine, something something, roads that we travel..."

Anyone know what song that is?

Anyway, he was damn good. For such a puny kid, he has a voice that's absolutely amazing. I actually wasn't bored at all watching him, which shocked me because I was fully expecting to be asleep by the end of the show.

Luckily, almost every song that both he and Clarkson sang was less than 3 minutes - so the songs came and went quickly and painlessly most of the night.

The only head-scratching part was when Clay covered James Taylor's "Going to Carolina." I actually groaned when he said he was doing that song next.

His version was horrible - but to be fair, James Taylor isn't the easiest person to cover, even for someone with a nice voice like Clay's.

Oh, and I also bought my g/f a Clay button and a autographed photo (cost = $15). She was very happy.

All in all, a good night was had by all. Now if I can just remember what song it was that Clay sang when he came out....

;-)

I'm glad it wasn't a painful experience though.

5. She's 22
And yes, she votes. But she tells me she can't remember who she voted for in 2000.

I guess you know what that means.

7. well
I think she can, but she knows if she says Bush she might upset me. But she's not overly political at all, so I think I have time to work on her and mold her into a proper functioning Democrat.

Geez, even my brother got me out of my Shaun Cassidy phase when I was only 14.

She's 22 and listening to teenybopper music - HELP!!!! She needs a musical makeover!!

10. she likes it because she can sing
She likes singing, so she appreciates this type of music.

Can I put up with it?

Probably.

Do I like it?

Not really.

Do I like her?

Yes.

Will I continue to put up with it?

Definately.

4. "Bedidity Elaine"
Edited on Fri Mar-05-04 09:08 AM by NicoleM
is probably "Kyrie" by Mr. Mister. That's my guess, anyway.

Here are the lyrics:

The wind blows hard against this mountain side, across the sea into my soul
It reaches into where I cannot hide, setting my feet upon the road

My heart is old, it holds my memories, my body burns a gemlike flame
Somewhere between the soul and soft machine, is where I find myself again

Chorus:
Kyrie eleison, down the road that I must travel
Kyrie eleison, through the darkness of the night
Kyrie eleison, where I'm going will you follow
Kyrie eleison, on a highway in the light

When I was young I thought of growing old, of what my life would mean to me
Would I have followed down my chosen road, or only wished what I could be

(chorus repeats out...)

11. Going against common DU thought...
I like Clay Aiken. He's a good singer, and he seems like a sweet kid. There are places for all types in music and he has a place as far as I'm concerned.

I mean, come on, not everyone likes dirtyoldratbastard ( of whatever the name is) and WuTangClan.

13. Glad you had a good time, MR
I think Clay does have a good voice and I, surprisingly too, don't mind listening to him sing. And his stage presence is coming along.

At some point, I hope, he will want to explore different material. I don't think he's really found his stride artistically.... yet.

In short. I think he's big on talent, and has yet to really explore what fits.

BTW, I LIKE Kyrie.
