You never know how what you say is going to affect someone
I was at work driving my eighteen wheeler down the road and decided to stop in a truck stop because I was feeling drowsy and needed a jolt. I'm not much of a coffee drinker and I needed something that worked quick so I got a box of caffeine pills. It wasn't the first time I'd stopped in there to buy caffeine pills and the young woman working the counter recognized me. She told me I needed to stop taking those things. I told her it was better for me than doing cocaine, just joking around of course.

She kind of winced when I said that instead of smiling. Then she told me that her first boyfriend had taken up beating on her as a hobby not long after he started using cocaine. I asked her if she was out of that situation just to make sure and she said that she was. I would have liked to have talked to her more about it, but I had to get that truck moving down the road.

Yeah, you just never know.

1. My dear Droopy...
How true that is...

You can change someone's life just by a few words...

I know, because mine has been...

Good for you, talking to her, even for a moment. I'm sure it meant a lot to her...

3. You were in the right place at the right time perhaps.
Maybe you'll stop there again and she'll be there. You can talk some more and who knows, maybe you'll make a friend.

Y'know what? Apples are great for keeping you awake. Better than coffee or caffeine pills.

5. Thanks for the tip
I will take an apple with me on Monday.

She seems like a nice person, but, unfortunately, the truck stop is 65 miles up the road from the house. But I will chat with her, as time permits, when I stop in there.
