Survivor 3/4 (with spoilers)
Preemptive disclaimer: Everyone who watches Survivor is a moran and if George W. Bush wins the election it's all their fault.

I'm going to defend Sue. She went nuts, no doubt about it. But I'd be totally grossed out if Hatch rubbed the Little Hatch all over me. If he did it while I was in a high-pressure situation with nothing else to think about, I'd probably lose it, too.

Other than that, I didn't think it was a terribly interesting episode.

1. I would have slapped
the holy shit outta him when it happened. I doubt I would have freaked like she did if I hadn't but I certainly would have been very upset. I still doubt I would have let it get past the moment of rubbing and was surprised that she did. Yup, I certainly defend her. He was an ass.

2. Well
I've screen capped it, and done a full Zapruder on the incident.

Rich did NOT initiate contact. Sue did. At one point, Sue even has her hand on the back of his hip, pulling him closer.

Does this look like someone being sexually assaulted?

And here she's headed down the other beam, but decides to back up and wait for Rich.

If you're going to make an effort to stand on a very small platform with a big naked guy, you're rather foolish to get upset at being on a small platform with a big naked guy.

And notice that her tribe didn't seem all that worked up about it, either.

I've watched this footage repeatedly, and have yet to see any "grinding" at all. Granted, it's edited, so there may be a brief moment of grinding that didn't get caught by the cameras.

Let's keep in mind how even her own tribemates were suspicious of her motives here. It's far from a clear-cut case.

3. On the initial telecast, I had no clue what had happened
I figured it was something sexual, as they put on a warning before that scene. It took me a while to figure out what happened.

Sue and Hatch are supposed to be on the Early Show tomorrow morning on CBS. Should be interesting to see what's said.

4. Very
I'm thinking Sue just lost it out there. Honestly, she just lost it, and her hatred for Rich led her subconcious to fixate on this "incident" and blow it all out of proportion.

5. Survivor is a menace to society
The title and plot should be changed to something more uplifting like..."Nobody Gets a Freakin' Penny Unless You ALL Get Out Together..."

6. LOL
A menace to society? That's hilarious.

I guess game shows and poker and sports are menaces to society, too.

9. it sounds so completely neocon Republican to me...
...who else would REALLY want to get rid of all their fellow cast-aways in order to live on a deserted island alone with a million dollars?

...now, poker, that's just plain boring to me unless I'm playing...that could potentially be alot more interesting if it were strip poker...

12. Sigh
You actually don't have a clue what the game is about, do you?

Try watching it sometime. It's not about ending up alone on a deserted island. It's about being the last one standing in a contest, and then going home with the million dollars.

No more neocon than any other gameshow. Or sporting event.

10. Honestly, what is the point of your post?
Do you think the people here who like the show are going to stop watching it due to your wisdom and insight?

PS--that disclaimer I posted up front was for the benefit of people like you. I do that so you people don't feel the need to post in this thread.

7. Rich was being a smart ass in the
first place by continally stripping off his shorts, his nekkidness was getting tiresome to the tribes and to the viewers. If Rich had used his head (the big one) he would have realized he was just setting himself up for trouble. I think that Sue had reason to complain but I think that she is also setting up Rich and CBS for a big ole lawsuit. :eyes:

Of course, that ignores the fact that Rich's tribemates encouraged him to strip.

11. I think Rupert commented about the $10mill payout
in the form of a lawsuit. He heard her say that and when he did I realized that it was an act. I saw her waiting for Richard in that game last week - she saw him nekkid and she was pretty much like "Bring it On". But all the tears I believe, were probably to build up the lawsuit that she wants to bring up against Hatch & CBS.

13. What we see is so manipulated
If she was the victim of unwanted sexual touching then she has my sympathy. What she does about it is up to her. If she wants to sue him, fine.

I was pretty much disgusted by the reaction of the players. IF it happened like Sue said, she had every right to feel violated.

But we only see what the producers want us to see and they aren't going to show anything that will be used in a lawsuit. Even the broadcast of comments of the participants has to be guarded.

I don't like Sue but if she felt violated those are her feelings and we can't take those away from her. It's like any other victim of abuse.

Now if it was all an act, she's a creep!

15. I feel for her but I have a sneaky suspicion about something
The way it was handled and portrayed were very strange to me. Since they know what is going on all the time I found the way the host (Jeff Probst) handled it was quite strange, not very considerate or PC. "Boston Rob" actually came off as being very considerate-"you have give her the benefit of the doubt in something like this"-while Rupert (a teen counselor) and Tom (especially with the dance) looked like jerks.

At the end they mentioned a BIG SURPRISE in next week's show...my sixth sense tells me that Richard and Sue will show back up, just a guess. If that is the case it is a horrible handling of a serious matter. Sexual assualt or whatever that technically was (and it was something) is not a lighthearted deal.

14. TES: Sue and Rich up next.
Edited on Fri Mar-05-04 09:15 AM by NicoleM
She says she and Rich have worked it out, but they still have a different perspective on what happened.

Harry Smith is very annoying.

Sue: "Feeling Richard naked next to you is not a good feeling."

Seriously, Smith is acting like he's trying to broker peace between Sharon and Arafat.

That's it for this half hour, but they'll be back later.

16. Second segment.
Rich is sorry she feels so bad. But he apparently doesn't feel he did anything wrong.

She considered a lawsuit but decided against it. But CBS and Mark Burnett have been "real nice" about helping her deal with the situation.

She didn't watch the show last night. She didn't see Big Tom's dance but she pretty much just called him a drunk.

She didn't expect any support from her tribemates because it's not a "real" situation.

Harry Smith needs to be reminded that it's not a "real" situation--he is taking this very, very seriously.

And now it's over.

17. Frankly, I'm glad Sue is gone.
I was disgusted by the way she "christened" their raft be peeing on it. She obviously has a twisted sense of humor.

18. Kathy and Amber are the real villains here.
I don't think that Hatch meant to grind against Sue or anything. He probably had no clue about what happened.

However, Sue is entitled to feel however she wants. Rich doesn't have to be a villian for Sue to feel dirty about having Rich's penis touch her body.

The situation was very ambiguous, but the reaction of the tribemates was sickening. Shii Ann, Alicia, and most of the them were very fair to Rich and to Sue. However, Kathy's hatred of Sue for leaving the game (actually a gift to the other team) and Amber's "just suck it up" statements were disturbing. Rupert was especially awful.

:puke:
