Penn&Teller doing environmentalism
Anyone see this?
So...they are doing environmentalism, and how environmentalists are full of $hit. Well...
I'm an environmentalist, and a Ph. D. biologist. It looks to me like what they are doing more than anything else is cherrypicking their representative people to support their agenda, namely: environmentalism is alarmist and a front for elitist liberals.
I am understandably disappointed. I always liked Penn&Teller. But the people they have picked as representatives of the environmental movement are mainly uneducated in the facts, or uninformed, and the "informed" people they chose are Patrick Moore and Bjørn Lomborg. the show really came off as "Those silly environmentalists are just panicky", which is unfortunate. There are very real issues of concern today with the environment, and the show spoofed them. For example, they went to an environmentalist at the Cato Institute (!) who said that global warming is exaggerated because it will only raise the global temperature 2-3°. well, an increase of that magnitude WILL cause massive flooding of the coasts, and he's making it out as if it will have no effect! It only takes a 2-3° change in temperature for the glaciers in the marginal areas (Alaska, Greenland) to melt, BECAUSE THEY'RE MARGINAL! We don't have to talk about the south polar icecap here! This is enough.
It's a shame, because they did have a chance to address the real issues here. They complained that environmentalists were in it for politics, but apparently so are they.

3. I really like Penn and Teller
But they do exactly what you're saying with every group they dislike. Their attacks on occultists group all the wackos together, but then they ignore the people who consider occult symbology to be more a school of alternative psychology and just concentrate on the people who really believe that they can fly about the room.

They should just stick to their act. Their debunking crap is self-servingly selective.

4. Are you talking about the tv show,
Are you talking about the tv show, "Bullsh__?"

If so, I liked the series at first, until I realized that Penn Jillette gives himself so much power that he can make anyone look bad.

The formula of "Bullsh__" is:

1) show 10 seconds of an environmentalist saying one-sentence.

2) show 60 seconds of a professor who disagrees with the environmentalist.

3) show Penn Jillette calling the environmentalist names to the camera (long after the interview with the environmentalist ended).

4) DON'T give the environmentalist a chance to respond to 2 or 3.

6. Yeah, that's pretty much how the show went
I would have liked to have been interviewed for the show, to present a more balanced opinion than they gave, but hey...

8. Penn Jillette would have given you 10 seconds and then
Penn Jillette would have given you 10 seconds and then called you names for a minute, so maybe it's just as well he didn't interview you.

Good luck finding a better place to be interviewed.

9. You're right
Good point. I may know what I am talking about, but I'm not the one in charge of the cameras.

7. well, that's typical NIMBY elitist bullshit...
I believe that one of the major forms of discrimination today is exemplified by NIMBY...
Public housing? ...NIMBY
City waste? ...NIMBY
Halfway house? ...NIMBY

And where do all these unwanted but necessary projects end up?
