1. Anyone could predict that I'd support this thread (and Nash).

2. I didn't know you were a fan
but I did figure a Canadian would recognize him. Are you that, too? ;)

Here's one of him on some Vancouver TV station (CKVU) playing two cuts. The video quality is excellent as well:

3. Amurikan!
Learned about him from the Hi-Fi vinyl he was on...was it "white noise"? FM? Great stuff. Then, got into his solo work. Even talked with him briefly on the phone once while searching for vintage synthesizers (he was working at a place I called, and I had no idea. What an incredibly cool surprise!).

More power to Nash. It's always fun to run into another fan.

4. I learned about him being in FM after the fact
and was listening to the solo work. I think KPFT (local Pacifica station) turned me onto him and then I went in search on my own. I never knew he had videos out or that the show I posted had originally aired on PBS! Now youtube is our friend and resource :D

I always loved how he played electric mandolin as his "guitar" :)

That was cool about you talking to him. I always wonder what some of these musicians do after they drop out of sight for a while...

5. Nash the Slash rules!
And I'm not just saying that 'cause I'm Canadian. :P

I heard his parody of "Smoke on the Water" after looking for FM stuff (loved Black Noise!), and I thought it was the coolest thing in history.

I read an interview with him (this was in the late 70s before I moved to the States), and there was this whole thing about him living below subway level in Toronto so he could plug directly into the electrical grid unnoticed because "...my machines must feed..." How cool is that?

Thanks for the links! :hi:

6. I've read about those Toronto tunnels...
Maybe his real name is "V" :P

Glad you liked the links. I'll be downloading more. There was a pretty good interview I found there as well, from what looked like some 80s music-video show.

"Dopes on the Water" was always a favorite, too. It was also fun playing "Decomposing" on turntables at KPFT by hand

8. You're welcome

Think of it as a pleasant surprise of a birthday present :hi:

9. I've seen him in person - imagine "Smoke on the Water" on mandolin
...run through a room full of synths with frequency followers.

Sounded more massive than the original.
