Three day topic of discussion at the graywarrior house

What in the name of fuck fell on the roof at 10 pm scaring the fuck out of the two of us and the four cats? There are no trees near the house. There is no sign of a branch, a rock, a chunk of snow or ice, no snow was disturbed on the roof. No meteors, no dead reindeer, no dead birds. No footprints. No blood. No attic. No idea.

If we discuss this any longer, I will go insane. Three days. One more trip outdoors to "take a look" will NOT EXPLAIN IT!!!!!

I have lived with lots of snow and ice, and have heard a similar sound when ice on the roof shifted.

My house in MN used to crack and pop when it got down to a certain temperature (around 0). The cracking sound would come from the roof area. It would get louder and scarier the colder it was.
