HOLY SHIT, have you seen Google Maps' "Street view"
I type in my address and it shows a pic taken from the road in front of my house. You cant quite make out my car tag, but the make and model are clear.

This is way too touchy and close for me.

ARGGHHHH I just googled my SO's address and MY CAR IS IN HER DRIVEWAY TOO!!!!!!!!!!!

227 Sullivan and an East Houston address, then went by the Cooper Union.

It's cool to tour around!

They drove up and down streets in broad daylight in those funny cars and I've never seen one!

25. Drunk Guy Passed Out on Curb Shows Up on Google Street View

Google Street View has certainly made a name for itself in the U.S. by catching some interesting situations, such as people braking into houses, a kid wiping out on his bike, and even a marriage proposal. The service has now launched in Australia and, go figure, is already getting itself in trouble down under, this time catching a drunk passed out on the curb after an all-night bender.

The man, who isn't releasing his identity, went on a crazy night out to drown his sorrows over the loss of a friend. He passed out after getting out of a cab and the Googlemobile happened to drive by as he was still sleeping it off. Thankfully, Google is being good about removing such sights from its sites, and has already banished the offending picture from the Aussie Street View. Something tells us it won't be the last.

17. What's creepy...No people...There are NO PEOPLE in Street View.
Google = Evil.

Actually, I'm guessing that they had to do their best to not photograph people's faces for legal reasons.

Just checked, there are people in Manhattan.

But there's nobody in the suburbs!!!

26. To be fair, you never see people in the suburbs.
They're all inside.

Which is why the suburbs have slowly killed the openness of America.

We've all isolated ourselves from one another.

29. That's a fact...
And truer it seems everyday as evidenced by the rise gated communities.

Interesting observation: the older neighborhoods on the east coast, no fences.

West coast, no such thing as a yard that isn't completely enclosed by six foot high fences.

39. I live in a trolley-suburb.
One that was built in the 40s and 50s. It's not nearly as urban as some central city neighborhoods here in Salt Lake, but it's got its own little downtown center and the streets are gridded, not snaking around like in the burbs. People are always out and about, walking to the store, over to the park, up and down our street. We have block parties and are always close with our neighbors.

My family lives in the suburbs. They know two people on their street and that's about it.

What gets me is people complain about how they can't get their own yard or privacy in the city, but that isn't true. My neighborhood is older, my house is brick and was built in the late 40s, but I have my own front yard and backyard. It's perfect and a healthy mix of city and suburban without the isolation.

42. There's a movement, a slow one, in California to return to that model..
Neighborhoods of homes built in the 1920s-1940s had local grocers and shops and one did a lot of walking.

I've noticed some new projects in Sunnyvale, for example, that have condos above shops and offices, which is a different model than the neighborhood grocer model, but more pedestrian friendly and less auto reliant, and that's a good thing!

Eight years in NYC, never owned a car.

Have a great weekend, D.I.!

30. It is odd, as my street has so many kids
that it's almost never empty. Even during a school day, there are moms and/or grandparents with infants in strollers about.

They must have digitally removed people in the suburbs, but couldn't do it with city pictures because of the number of people?

28. I just checked out our house on that yesterday
The pic was taken in summer, so a lot of the street is covered in green leafiness, blocking the view of a lot of houses. My Jeep is parked on the street in front of the house and I think one of our black cats is in one of the front windows, but heck, she's black, so it could just be the curtains askew. So they must have taken the photo on a weekday morning, and I was home...that's weird...

All they have of my address is the utility box outside my fence, but I used it a few weeks ago to scare the shit out of an online scammer by describing in detail the shit in his front yard. The guy claimed to be in Canada - but he was really in Riverside, he registered his internet domain with his real address.
