Wii gamers - Rock Band or Guitar Hero
If I am going to spend insane amounts of money for a rock music program for the Wii, which one is better?

1. Guitar Hero, hands down. Get the "World Tour" package.
We got a Wii for LyricKid's late Christmas present, along with the GH "World Tour" guitar set, and he freaking LOVES it. He's getting really good at it, too! lol

5. That's what we have, also. We're a regular Partridge Family these days.

2. Check the song lists for the two games and decide which songs you like better
I haven't tried Guitar Hero so I can't tell you which is better.

We bought Rock Band in early 2008 because GH didn't offer multiple instruments at the time.

It's really not an insane amount of money because we've gotten more use of it than any other video game. It's the only video game my wife has played more than once.

We're also very popular aunts and uncles. Our siblings are thrilled to see their kids enjoying a video game with no violence. The singing and drumming is close to "real" music so the kids are learning stuff and getting exposed to some great tunes.

I don't know if GH offers tracks you can purchase online. The ones for RB are great: The Pixies album Doolittle, a collection of Who songs that aren't just the hits and the proverbial many many more.

Have fun.

3. Compare the song lists
and decide which you like better. I've played both, I like the gameplay a bit better on Rockband, but Guitar Hero has more songs that I like, and I get bored faster at Rockband for that reason. I'm going to spring the extra money for the full band kit though.

If you go with Rockband, keep in mind only Rockband 2 does additional song downloads on the Wii.

4. Personally, I prefer the Guitar Hero series...

...but like others have said, it's really up to you based on the song selection of each. They play very similarly. I've just noticed that on the guitar in Rock Band 2, hard level seems too easy and expert level seems too difficult. On Guitar Hero IV, I find the hard setting to be appropriate for my level of skill and expert to be playable.

8. Having played both
My family definitely prefers rock band. Haven't played on the Wii though, so it may differ there. Family get togethers usually cosist of us watching Top Gear, Dirty Jobs, and then several hours of drunken Rock Band.

10. Guitar Hero World Tour
Songs are all original - No covers - the drums are way better and it is just the right thing to do.

We have both - Our Guitar Hero World Tour is on the Play Station 3 - Rock Band is on the Wii - Both are good but World Tour is the way to go.
