Angel fans check in
Two things:

Does Amy Acker as Elyria (sp?) kick ass, or what? Where do you think they're going with that?

Also, what is up with soulless vampires acting kind and compassionate? Harmony's behavior confuses me greatly.

I noticed in later seasons of Buffy, vampires were depicted as not necessarily pure evil, as they were earlier, but merely amoral. (I'm thinking of scenes in season 5 where vampires fed just a little on humans, not wanting to kill them, such as the place Riley ended up just before leaving the series.)

But Harmony in Angel seems to be kinder and more compassionate than some humans on the show.

Did Joss Whedon ever give a rationale for the change in Harmony's character, or that of vampires in general?

The Pacers took it off in our area last night though. I have to wait until Saturday to see it.

BTW, did you hear the Firefly movie is a go now? $50 million budget.

2. I hate when sports pre-empts my more important entertainment needs.

4. I'm actually 4 or so episodes behind
and I missed a lot of them this season--mainly because the Pacers were on. I'm going to have to catch up in repeats, I guess.

3. Elyria! *SPOILER*
Edited on Thu Mar-04-04 11:18 AM by supernova
Man is that a kick ass plot line!!! The reborn demon-godess with no place to go, no minions to worship her. LOL!

Harmony isn't nice, just stupid. At Sunnydale High she was a Cordy wannabe. In all fairness she tried to get Eve to run so she could mow her down and attack. :D

I think the idea here is that no matter how "bad" some individuals are; there is always something worse. (Wolfram&Hart)

13. I liked Fred a lot
but she wasn't going anywhere as a character, so I'm glad their giving Amy somewhere to go by having that character metamorphose into another level of being.

Do you think Fred is really "gone?"

5. Recent convert
I do not watch TV(except cartoon network for the anime fix). Mostly a content issue but also an "I determine my life's schedule" thing. That being said, the advent of DVDs has freed me to have access to the complete series to be viewed at my discretion.

So we are watching Buffy. Once we got to the season where Angel seperated from Buffy we started buying the Angel series. We are currently on season 1 of Angel and enjoying it quite a bit. Though the set up is a bit ham handed its fun none the less.

15. I'm starting to do much the same thing
Unless it's something that really grabs me, I'll just wait for the DVD. That way there's no ads to get in the way of the story. I've found that shows that I thought were just ok end up being much better when you're not having to sit through idiotic commercials.

6. Gellar Open To Angel Gig
Gellar Open To Angel Gig

Sarah Michelle Gellar, former star of TV's Buffy the Vampire Slayer, told SCI FI Wire the reasons she reluctantly pulled out of appearing in the Buffy spinoff Angel earlier this season and left open the possibility that she might still make an appearance, if asked, before Angel winds up its fifth and final season this year on The WB. Gellar, speaking for the first time about the issue, said in an interview that she had to bow out of a planned guest appearance on Angel when her aunt died late last year. Gellar spoke to SCI FI Wire during a break in the filming of her new project, the supernatural horror film The Grudge, in Tokyo.

Her Angel decision was "a really common misconception that people have written a lot about," Gellar said. "They had asked me to do Angel, and it was a very bad time in my personal life. There was a lot going on in my family. And I had to back out. And you sort of never hear the second side of the story. You never hear why I didn't do it. And then all of a sudden, people get really angry, and nobody asks why it didn't work for you." At the time, reports suggested that Gellar had pulled out because she wanted to distance herself from the Buffy franchise.

8. BAD news guys...
I read that UPN has chosen NOT to pick up Angel once it goes of the WB.

I could just puke with sadness.

9. I know, it's totally disastrous!
What the hell is the WB thinking?

Oh, you know why, becase "Dark Shadows" is baaaaaa--aaack. And guess which network?

No, we couldn't possibly have two vampire shows on, now could we? No couldn't have that.

11. At least Dan Curtis (the creator of Dark Shadows)
is involved, so it still might be good.

14. Maybe
but I don't see why they had to take Angel off to bring it back. It's not like there aren't copy cat shows on other networks or anything. :eyes:

10. Yeah, I know.
But 5 years is a long run for a SF/Horror show. Most of them don't even make it past a full first season.
