If a car battery's dead and
you're trying to put it in neutral to push it out of the parking space (cars on either side, can't get a car next to it to jump it off), you should still be able to put it in neutral, right?

Lelapin's car battery is dead and I'm out of AAA emergency services until my card renews in April. She's got the key in the ignition and turned, foot on the brake and she can't get the car into neutral so she and her friends can push it out of the space to jump it.

The glass replacement company can't get to the window to replace it (she needs to move the car into an open area) as they need the power windows to be working. They won't with a dead battery. :banghead:

1. Hrm...
I would think so. Some cars have an extra button you have to also hold down in order to be able to move the transmission into neutral when the car's not on, though (my old Subaru did).

2. Is she sure the key is turned all the way?
They should be able to shift it into neutral with a foot on the brake and the key turned, yes.

4. I talked to one of her friends
He got in the car and started over. Key fully turned, foot on the brake (mashing the pedal) and pushed the button in on the shift and it won't move.

3. Park or emergency brake is off,and in neutral it should roll.
Battery has nothing to do with it not rolling.

5. It won't shift into neutral
We're going to have to pay a towing company to come and tow the damn thing out of the space and jump it. :banghead:

I just had to replace the AC adapter on my computer. $109. :banghead:

10. can a battery swap be made between friends?
Swap a good battery out of the running car and into the non-starter.

Start up the problem car, move it.

Swap the battery back and jumpstart the problem car.

12. I hadn't even thought of that
She got the car into neutral, pushed back and started. Now she's got to track the guy down from the glass company (who's been there twice) to see if he can come and replace the smashed left rear window as scheduled.

11. It sounds like you got some bad acid.
Was it on paper, a little square with a blue or purple dot?

Then you got some purple microdot, there's some heavy microdot out there.

Just stay calm, everything will be fine.

Remember, the world, the whole universe, is made of LOVE.

Once the colors you're seeing have gone away, maybe ask someone to check the shift overide.

Glad you're problem got solved! :hi:

Welcome to my life (at least the last 10 years of it). Slogging through is the only option. Not much joy in that, but I don't know how else to get through.

Lelapin was in tears when she called me (I was at Best Buy getting a replacement AC adapter for my computer - it died yesterday.) Several phone calls later, she was able to find a couple friends on campus and one had a car. The three of them got the car pushed back and I talked them through hooking up the cables. The glass guy was kind enough to come back and now she has glass where there was none.

She said that by the time they got the car running, they were dying laughing. I knew getting her around her goofy friends would help her mood and it did. :)

Kind of like talking to you. ;)

So, what time's that toast tomorrow?

16. It has to be before 7 EST.
That's when the barber shop closes. ;)

Oh Lelapin, HUGE vibes for getting some place warm and sleeping. And you too Tish, when the time and the mood strike you. Rest matters. The last 11 years have, if nothing else, tought me that.

I'm gonna need a pillowfest myself, the normal NJ driver is on vacation and I have his run. Sore. And ow. Next time they could tell me. I'd have been in work a half hour earlier. And brought advil. :argh:

The company of those who make us smile. In the dark.

Jai besoin du ca. Necesito esto. There, I can butcher 2 languages at once. HA!

If they let me out early, it'll be on the condition I come back for a round of abuse. Only seems fair.

Goofy like you don't know love. :D
