The skin on my legs is really super dry.
And nothing's helping. Nothing. Stupid cold weather.

Any suggestions on how I could make them less dry? I tend to stay away from most drugstore moisturizers and such because of the chemicals in them (I don't think they're going to kill me, I just prefer things that are more natural), but really, I'm getting desperate. I have this body butter for "very dry skin" and it's helping a bit, but not a lot.

2. The Ancient Romans took baths in olive oil
Not sure its the most cost-effective solution, but it sounds fun and it would work

3. Anything with oatmeal in it will help. Just take some oatmeal and toss it into
your bath or wrap it in a wash cloth and use it in the shower. Aveno has some more sophisticated products if you'd prefer, but plain old oatmeal is as natural as you can get.

4. Gold Bond Ultimate Healing lotion
CVS sells it in a small $0.99 tube to try. It is the best stuff I've ever used.

Found also with CQ10 and Shea Butter, I believe.

My mom has used some kind of Aveeno with oatmeal with some success, too.

We both get severely dry winter skin.

Good luck!

:hi:

5. Baby oil.
Put it on all over, while your skin is still wet.

18. It's probably the shea butter: the plus thing is--no chemicals.
Maybe preservatives since it's a natural product to extend the shelf-life, but nothing really evil. A lot of "body butter" products just have shea butter, a little vegetable glycerin (helps it spread--shea is firm but melts at body temp.) and often the scent is "natural fragrance" or "essential oils." The nice thing about shea butter is it seems to form a barrier that wards off some of the worst winter-itchy problems--long hot showers that totally rinse all the oil out of your skin, scratchy woolly clotches, and biting wind.

My ashy elbows accept no substitutes.

8. Flaxseed oil caplets
They work miracles on dry skin. I had terrible problems with dry skin and eczema; nothing seemed to work until a friend recommended these. I haven't had a problem since.

9. Almost any lotion will do some help.
Also, if you shave them, you may want to stop, at least for the time being.

12. You may get a little hairy, but then no one will notice your dry skin!

Off topic but notable: back in the 70's, we were rigorous about eliminating any leg hair. I found out recently from my daughters that since girls are allowed to wear pants to school now, a lot of them stop shaving their legs until it's time to break out the shorts!

11. Curel lotion (Original Formula in the blue bottle).
I have VERY dry skin. I've tried everything, and that's the only thing that works for me, especially in the winter.

15. I was having dry skin for the first time in my life...
a friend recommended Corn Huskers Lotion. You might have seen it in your grandma's vanity; it's really old-school.

It solved my problems, and isn't oily at all.

after a bath or shower do`t dry ..i use plamers cocoa butter cream because it seals in the moisture with a minimum of chemicals. olive oil is another good choice.

19. I don't know if they make this any more...
Years ago, I used to have more problems with dry skin on my legs and especially my hands. At that time, I found that Johnson and Johnson's baby cream - not lotion - worked quite well. It came in a little white jar. It did not have any of the alcohol or preservatives that some of the other store brands had.

I haven't been down the baby aisle in years. But see if they still make the skin cream for babies.

You can probably get it at Shopper's Drug Mart.

22. That stuff is the best!
My hands can get really dry and cracked if I'm outdoors a lot in the winter. I put Bag Balm on them and cover with socks when I go to bed. Like new in the morning. Amazing!

The only trouble is this incessant need to moo....
