Good games/activities for 6 year old girls?
Edited on Thu Jan-15-09 11:52 AM by NewJeffCT
I think we're going to have our daughter's six year old birthday party in our house next month (I'd prefer it anywhere but our house...but, that's another story.)

What are some good indoor games/activities for these 6 to 6 1/2 year old girls? There may be a few boys at the party as well, but I'm not sure.

edited to add - most likely at least 10 kids, possibly 15-20.

Thanks

1. Get a Wii
if you don't already have one.

:P

My 6 yo niece beat her father at Wii Golf.

3. we're getting one tomorrow, believe it or not
but, can you have a dozen kids play at once on a Wii?

10. Well, no
I think you can have up to 4 or 6 players in most games, IIRC. I'm sure someone will correct me if it's more than that. (But, you have to go through the motions of setting up your Mii, your avatar that acts on screen for you first, which can be time consuming... just FIY. You can also set up little "guest" Miis for temp play.

You'd still have to have 2 or three other things running. And I'd put a time limit in the Wii, so everybody gets a turn, because they will stay at it all day if they can. :D

Those big inflated moon bounce things are fun and they come in residential sizes. Chances are a neighbor has one you might borrow.

Decorate your own cupcake or cookie is fun. Set up a station for that with all the trimmings.

11. They have a whole place nearby for those inflatable thingies
that is very popular for kid birthday parties (called Jump Zone - which might be a chain)

but, I don't think we could get one of those things indoors.

5. That is really inappropriate.
If those kids are gonna do anything with shot glasses, they should be doing tequila slammers. It's more fun than playing quarters.

22. But you need to educate them on the dangers of alcohol poisoning
I'd say no more than 7 shots per kid MAX. :(

6. Have a miniature crafts fair.
Buy some supplies to make origami animals, wreaths, flower bouquets, "log cabin" milk carton houses (with pretzels as the "logs"), or some other fun, cheap and easy to make crafts.

Either that, or rent a pig, grease it up, and tell them whoever can "catch" it gets extra bacon bits on their sandwich. <------This second part is totally a joke, btw, but it is something my family might have tried at least once.

7. Here's what I did at WMUette's 6th B-Day party (Feb. 08)
When guests arrived we had a large and a small jar of jelly beans. They guessed the number of jelly beans in each. We then gave them a sheet of construction paper (color of choice) then seated them at a table with markers, crayons, stickers, etc. for them to decorate. When they were finished we put clear contact paper on the front and back to make their own placemat.

We let them use their placemats for the refreshements, then wiped them down for them to take home later.

We then played Hulabaloo. We split them into three teams, allowing one team to go at a time. Each winner received a small prize. The kids liked watching the other groups play almost as much as they liked actually playing!

By that time it was time to open gifts. We then played "Put the nose on the clown" and some other traditional game (can't remember).

The jellybean winners were announced and then it was time to go home.

The kids AND parents really liked their placemats. We had a mixed crowd, so I made sure I had a variety of stickers.

Hope this was helpful!

9. For the b-day cake, you can bake them each a mini cake and let them decorate their own
Fill some baggies with small amounts of colored frosting, put out some M&Ms, cinnamon candies, gum drops -- whatever, and let them go to town.

16. That's a LOT of kids. Yikes. I'd get a pinata, or do something like a couple of craft tables or
cookie-decorating. 15-20 is just way too many to organize any kind of game. Getting a Wii means one kid playing while everyone else stands around and watches, which is boring.

28. Buy some of those inexpensive kits for bead jewelry making.
My girls loved to make jewelry when they were six; they did it so much that I still find beads in obscure places and they are eleven now. I like the crafts thing too.

30. You could have them make their own pizzas.
Bake the crusts ahead of time. Have lots of shredded cheese, sauce, and toppings ready in bowls. Kids top the pizza. You put it in the oven. They just made a lunch they will eat!

32. The "quiet" game?
First one to make a sound is the "loser" who gets no cake & ice cream. Sorry, ten to twenty six year old kids at one time? I have another one- watch mommy drink the vodka! Mommy can actually tolerate all these kids at one time!

I do not enjoy the company of children at all- if you can handle it, more power to ya!

38. cupcakes or cookies for them to decorate, and for the boys, a wii
I had my kids' parties at either Chuck e cheese or Mcdonalds, I didn't have to clean up the mess, everything was there and ready when we arrived. One year we rented a hotel room for half a day and had a party by the pool, but the kids were way older than 6.

39. Let them paint your house
I don't have very much experience with kids' parties

Have em make puppets from brown paper lunch bags: supply crayons & colored paper & scissors & gluesticks. Then put on a couple of puppet shows

Or have em make masks from stiff paper. They'll need help cutting out the holes for the eyes and mouth. Again: crayons & colored paper & scissors & gluesticks & a final show

Musical instruments? Here, you need something like a number of cans of various sizes to make rattlers & drums & such. Cover with paper & decorate before making beautiful music. A great musical instrument can be produced with a coffee can, a yardstick, and thick string: tape the yardstick to the can (mailing tape or duct tape), punch a hole in the center of the can, and run the string from the hole to the far end of the yardstick; plucking it makes a wonderful bavoom sound that can be varied by bending the yardstick slightly. Might require some supervision with six year olds to prevent over-abuse of the yard stick

Other tin can ideas: tin can telephones; again they can be covered with paper and decorated.

Or if you have a small coffee can with a lid and a larger coffee can with a lid, you can make up an ice cream recipe, put it in the smaller can, taping the lid on securely (duct tape!), then put the small can in the larger can, fill the space between with ice and salt, and have the kids kick the can around outside for fifteen or twenty minutes until the ice cream freezes. With twenty kids, you could divide them into groupss of three or four and put different things into every groups ice cream can (make a basic vanilla ice cream recipe and then one can gets chocolate syrup, one gets some minced frozen strawberrys, and so on). The kids get outside for a while and get tired kicking the cans around, so after a while they'll all be glad to sit down and sample the ice cream they made

41. I had a birthday where every girl was given a piece of paper and a pencil and they all
had to draw a picture of me posing in front of the fireplace. Don't know if I kept the sketches or not. But I thought it was fun and my friends did too. We were about 9 or so.
