I'm not alergic to my painkiller anymore!
:woohoo:

I just put on a pain patch. I was taking morphine pills, but I'm alergic to morphine, so I was taking heavy dozes of prescription antihistamine to keep from scratching myself apart.

No itchies with the patch! It's Fentanyl, not morphine! :woohoo:

And, I don't wake up in agony and have to crawl to the bottle any more. The patch works all night!

:bounce:

I can't tell you how wonderful this is. For anyone out there who cares, I had to share. :)

Now I only have to take the morphine (and antihistamine) for spikes in pain, and hopefully I'll be able to keep those under control.

It really is! It takes a bit more record keeping, but it's going to be worth it I think. :)

18. Hi Cabcere!

Thank you! I'm still watching for side effects and I'm always loopy when I change meds, but so far it's okay. :)

The worst so far is that I've been very thirsty but had no appetite for 2 days. Hopefully I'll eat regularly tomorrow. Then all will be well.

5. YAY for NO PAIN!!!
PAIN bites. I can't tell you how glad I was to find an effective, non-narcotic pain reliever for my menstrual pain three years ago. It's Aleve (Naproxen) for anyone who cares to know that. Nothing else really worked for me, besides Percocet, which was simply not suitable for monthly use.

:(

I'm very glad you found something non-narcotic that works for you.

So far only narcotic pain killers work well for me. The change to Fentanyl will be my 4th upgrade.

I'm going to have to be a hell of a lot more careful about my other allergies now though. I won't have that buffer there to protect me.

27. My problem has always been taking too little painkiller
rather than too much. :(

I don't like taking any meds. But I'll take what I have to take. I've had the same pain management doctor for almost 10 years and he knows that, so he's good about giving me what I need. :)

51. Pain management seems to be a very, very conservative field.
You don't move on to the next thing until you absolutely have to.

Our government is very, very paranoid about the use of painkillers. :(

It is great to be able to take a pain medication that works. It will help you get some rest and heal more effectively.

Compulsive scratching is uncomfortable and embarrassing. It's very nice to leave that behind. :)

And it's very nice to know that when I go to sleep I don't have to take a pain pill immediately before going to bed in the hopes of maybe getting only 4 hours of really restful sleep.
