Pet Peeve #56,891: People asking for directions
Now, I have no problem with people asking me for directions (and as my wife will attest, my Aboriginal skills at navigating anywhere makes me a wise choice to ask) but since I started my new project about 2 months ago I've been working on streets (mostly) where apparently everyone gets lost. If I'm lucky, I get stopped only 3 times a day for directions. I'm usually fine with the first request but by that automatic third stop I'm greatly annoyed. They see me working and interrupt me - expect me to drop what I'm doing and walk over to their car to tell them the building their looking for is 50 feet from their passenger door or that Chinatown is 10 blocks, take a right, go 3 blocks and you're there.

If I could, I'd treat them like a panhandler or cigarette beggar as I'm walking by and ignore them.. but they'll just sit there forever barking at me and blocking traffic. Occasionally, I don't know the address they're looking for and tell them so and attempt to go back to work; I've yet to have a car leave me at that. They sit there and ask/yell over and over the location they've already asked and sometimes they get combative.

I think I'll start wearing headphones tomorrow. They don't have to be plugged into anything but if they see them they may not stop and ask or at least move on when I ignore them.

ps: The Museum of Fucking Science is right in fucking front of you you illiterate asshat.

8. Usually, if one is lost, the best place to ask for directions is at a gas station or something.
Stopping in the middle of traffic is just dumb.

13. Or like I said, interrupting someone who's busy
Most of the time I'm totally engrossed with eye in the instrument and mouthing instructions through a radio. I'm not the only one interrupted when they insist on asking me and not someone else..... or looking straight up or to the right for the huge sign for the place they're looking for.

14. Why not take a handful of maps to work and offer to sell them to people who are lost?
Or (if you're feeling generous) you could just give them away: you probably have a bunch of old maps in your glovebox that you could hand out --- from your visits to various other states and cities, say
