Are you worried about losing your job?
I was curious?
I found out today that my day job of 7-8 years cant pay me this week.Again! No paycheck in two freaken weeks. I'm Okay though. I have savings.
You know what..I wouldn't care if I lost that job. I f'n hate it.I just worry about my co-workers.
How are you doing on the job front? Any stress?."It's hard out here for a Pimp"...(Terrence Howard from the movie Hustle & Flow).

They will never be able to automate (completely) survey work, which will ALWAYS be necessary.

Unless we built robots, but then robots won't give annoying fucks directions 17 times a day.

2. No I'm very lucky
Almost too lucky..found out today that my job site is going to be closed on Jan 20th due to concerns about Inaugural Traffic. Except for "essential personel". Which apparantly my department is (I asked for leave earlier so I'm off anyway)..because we have a HUGH project coming up.
Plus our company is actually HIRING..there are signs everywhere about bonus money being paid for recruiting new employees.
I know my situation is pretty rare right now...

6. I'm a teacher. I'm doing okay this year.
I'm in a family full of laid-off lawyers & retirees who've watched their savings depreciate 40%, so for once in my life, thanks to Bush, I'm the only one in the family with a steadily growing income. I'm even getting a big bonus this year cause of the NCLB trainwreck that is George Bush's education "reform".

It's all kind of ironic, in a sucky way.

12. I worry about my job everyday...I work for an insurance
company. The bread and butter of an insurance company is selling group coverage to employers. The fewer employees the fewer members and well the fewer workers needed to process the memberships and everything associated with it.

13. I've dodged the lay off bullet twice now in the last month.
There are five of us left (out of a shop of around thirty guys.) We're just trying to ride things out and hoping this "lean" time will be over soon.

I feel terrible for the guys who are laid off (some since a week or two before Xmas!). I feel a little guilty and, I have to shamefully admit, a little giddy when I think that there are guys with seniority over me but they chose to keep me around any how. I KNEW all that brown nosing would pay off in the long run.

Seriously though, I have my fingers seriously crossed that things will pick up soon or I don't know what will happen.

20. In a way
Because I make more than poverty wages, live nearby, and they are letting me pump (breast feeding 2 month old baby). Having a baby has turned out to be expensive too. Just before I went on maternity leave, they hired another person for our department. I know though that this privately owned company is experiencing some economic hardship. I know that I am paid much more than the other person in our department who has been there about the same amount of time as me. With my pregnancy and a few other issues (some beyond my control), I have not done a lot of dazzling things this past year, except consistently getting my share of paperwork to customers on time ( which hadn't been happening when two other people were previously responsible for it). That isn't like solving a major quality problem or getting out new products that are ordered more than a few times per year though.
On the otherhand, if they fire me, I might just have to try to sue them. Despite 30 years in business with over 300 employees over that time period, I am the first woman to have a baby while employed there and perhaps it isn't a coincidence. Reegardless, it might be nice to have more time with my son and perhaps ther are other good oppurtunities out there that are just less convient right now.

26. I'm more worried about not being able to get one in the first place.
:( I graduated college in May and put out tons of applications, and I managed to get one job interview before I broke my wrist and ankle in mid-July. I didn't get the job, and my injuries and resultant surgeries put me out of commission for several months. As soon as I was able, I jumped right back into the job search and still didn't have much luck. I majored in anthropology, which isn't exactly in high demand even in the best economic circumstances, and I'm really just looking for something to pay the bills. I did finally manage to get an interview for a part-time position, so I'm hoping that will work out...if not, I'll just have to keep on looking. I've been looking into volunteer opportunities to fill my time, but our family situation has been so crazy lately that I don't even know anymore.

Owning your own business has many positive aspects, but having ANY form of security or "safety net" (such as unemployment benefits) sure is NOT one of them.

When you own the business, you take ALL the risks.

41. Not so much.
I've coped with job insecurity for nearly 20 years now - always working from project to project, and laid off in between. I'm currently in the midst of the longest steady stretch of employment I've ever had, 16 months and counting, and have been able to build up some savings. My corporate masters were also recently profiled as one of the very few companies still hiring in a recent article, so that bodes well, too. But, when this cow goes dry, and it will, I'll survive. Always have.

42. We operate our own business, so there's never less than a little stress...
We're getting by fine, receipts did take a hit the end of last year; and where we were able to bring a couple people on we weren't able to do so toward the end of 08.

There's no doubt we drive past way too many closed out businesses & store fronts. Our primary clients are seasonal but they're in a sector that remains survivable, relatively speaking; certainly by comparison. We've just gone through a period that was difficult. But even in the midst of all that managed to somehow pick up clients. It just seems and endless event sequence of positioning services in such a way as to remain appealing in a market that is squeezed tighter everyday...

Living a centered life and moving in smaller, more elegant circles seems key to me. And I'm glad we do, it's like a blessing

We had to take 1m out of our '08 budget, so lots of cuts have been happening already, with more down the pipeline if the economy doesn't shape up.

I am not at all worried about losing my job, if it happens it happens. I really don't enjoy what I do but have been hanging on in hopes of qualifying for the pension. Every day I go in that place I feel depressed & just feel like quitting.

I am in good shape financially, no debts & my home is paid for. I could make it OK on unemployment if needed. I am not really worried but would like another couple of years so I can do what I want on my own.
