BBQ Gurus: What should I buy?
I'm looking to buy a BBQ grill (gas) that can also serve as a smoker. I need the smoker. Love smoke, yum. I have a range of $300-500 but could go over for the *right* grill.

Any suggestions?

2. My gut reaction is that a device that can do both
will do neither very well.

Get (or build) a good smoker.

3. Brand names
Dont know but I do know grills all do the same thing. Concentrate on one with an extra burner and a nice big work surface. Throw a few wet wood chips in for smoke. Mine is a yard sale special and it works great.

4. You do NOT want gas.
Repeat after me: Grilling with gas is WRONG.

Now, to point you in the right direction: this for a smoker...

And one of these for a grill.

In my experience, charcoal produces the best results, and you really can't go wrong with Weber.

6. <SIGH> But I Like Gas!
I've had just as good of results warming up mesquite charcoal for an hour before hand as I have had with wet wood chips on a gas grill.

Besides, I plan on using it practically daily. You spend too much time warming it up with charcoal.

8. I really like my Weber gas grill.
It's very well thought out, worth a look. Their customer service is a thing of legend. :)

Plus, you get to throw around the term "Flavorizer Bars", which is funny as hell.

10. Go smoker first
there's good ones all over, but not gas (ewww). Also get a Weber kettle non-gas (gas=ewww, charcoal is a renewable resource). all told it'll cost less that $300
