My Bart's gone!
;( I can't believe it! I was getting so fond of him and now he's gone, just like that! I think I'll get a new one, but then I'll feel bad for cheating on my forner Bart Simpson avatar.

*Wanders away miserably*

Seriously though, Fox is really messed up, huh?

1. Fox = Propaganda Arm of the 4th Reich
What did you expect?

Free Speech is a threat to them.

5. be fair
ANYBODY who owns popular copyrighted material protects their interests.

We got a letter from Scott Adams' lawyers at my last job because we used Dilbert character and place names for our network.

If you don't actively protect your rights, you lose them. Fox owns the Simpsons and they have to do stuff like this. It's silly, I agree, but they could lose their rights to the Simpsons imagery if they didn't.

8. Yeah yeah...
I am just a pinko commie.

I think that anyone should be able to use anything as long as it is not for profit.

15. I don't
There are a lot of not-for-profit causes that artists wouldn't want their work associated with. What if the Republican Party tried to use Bart? Or the 700 Club?

I'm just saying Fox is doing what they have to do to protect their property. You HAVE to show that you've made efforts to protect it if there's ever a lawsuit over it. Happens every day.

3. As DU doesn't have permission to use the Simpsons
I can't have the Bart Simpson avatar anymore. Fox won't let us. Maybe I'll write to Matt Groening, appeal to him...

4. Fox lawyers are total fascists
when it comes to their I.P. (Intellectual Property). If you so much as think about putting up a Simpson's fansite, you'll probably get a cease and desist letter from some lawyers from Fox...

18. would it be a good idea...
I think it would be funny to scan the web (not progressive sites of course) and email faux, in mass, all the various sites that use a bart, or homer type of image, because we only want to help them protect their copyrighted image. I am sure there are plenty. In fact a radio station I listen to uses a homer comment on one of their openings. I don't know what the law says, but I thought copyright infringement was based upon someone using copyrighted material in an attempt to make money. This is silly, I am curious if they apply the same standards to websites that promote a conservative agenda??...Kevin.
