I bought two 4 packs of Kashi Go Lean meal replacement drinks the other day. I drank 2 of them today before I realized the "best by" date was 4/03. The 2nd 4 pack is dated 6/04, but I drank the old ones. I feel fine now, but I'm a little worried that I'll be praying to the porcelain god later.
Course it may leave you horribly mutated and in pain beyond imagination for all eternity trapped within your mutant immortal body. But the odds on that are fairly low.
If you get the sudden urge to go outside and bay at the moon, run directly to the refrigerator, get a bottle of Worcestershire sauce, and embalm yourself with it.
If you could get it down, it likely won't come back up.
The best by date is usually more about preserving taste than avoiding poisoning.
An exception could be if the container seemed puffed out or inflated. Except for carbonated drinks, avoid consuming something from an inflated package. Bad juju.
