Vegans/vegetarians: What is your primary source of protein?

And why is that your primary source of protein? Price? Availability? Easy to cook? Easy to store? Less Filling/Tastes Great?

Do you have a brand loyalty to your protein of choice? If so, what is it:?

And, how much protein (on average) do you consume in a day? Alternately, how do you know you're getting enough protein?

TIA!

:hi:

1. My primary source isn't "food" really.
I take roughly 60 grams a day via a soy protein drink mix.

I eat a fair number of Amy's quarter pounders each month, and that's a mixture of wheat and soy protein.

I consume roughly 130 grams of protein each day. I know I'm getting enough as I'm still making gains in muscle mass.

2. legumes and nuts.
also a good deal of peanut butter. I really dislike soyfoods unless they're prepared in a restaurant so I avoid eating them usually.

5. I drink a lot of soy mlik. I'm usually carrying around a mug of low fat chocolate
Silk, the way others carry coffee with them all the time. I love the stuff!!

I eat beans a lot, and do use fake meats some. I try to eat whole grains.

It's not as hard as some may think. A typical sized baked potato has 4 grams of protein. If you're getting a healthy amount of calories, you're probably getting enough protein. From all I've read, I should get about 30 grams a day. I'm sure I'm meeting, probably exceeding, that.

6. Not strictly, but mostly vegetarian.
Lots of different ways of mixing rice with bean products. I do eat cheese and dairy products. I love peanut butter. Getting enough protein has never been a problem. I think in this country you almost have to be trying to get a protein deficiency.

7. Food.
All food has protein. It's the basic building block of plants and animals. Eat a variety while limiting sweets, processed foods, and white flour, and you get plenty. Beans, whole grains, tofu, seitan, tempeh, and stuff like that have more concentrated and complete proteins, and vegetarians and vegans eat some of those from time to time.

It would be a better question to ask carnivores how they avoid eating too much protein, and how they eat enough grains and vegetables.

I'm in my vegan mode, and mostly cottage cheese when I'm in my vegetarian mode. Today I'm a vegan and am about to eat a veggie burger for supper.
