Patrick Swayze has been hospitalized for pneumonia.

The announcement was made shortly before the actor was due to appear on the Television Critics Association's press tour stage at the Universal Hilton in promotional support of his new A&E series, "The Beast."

"Patrick has asked that I tell you that this morning he checked himself into the hospital for observation," A&E president and GM Robert DeBitetto said.
