I totally pulled a Midlo today

My work vehicle was getting close to E so I went to a nearby Shell and as I always do I stick the pump in the tank and stick my cap in the handle to fill it up. It was windy and bitterly cold so I got back in the van to wait. Some time goes by and I think it's taking a while so I turn back and look at the pump to see I just passed 22 gallons which sets off the bells and whistles. I open the door and see a waterfall of gasoline gushing out of my tank.

I immediately race out and instead of using my brain and knocking the cap out of the handle I yank the pump out with cap still in place. I then proceed to have a gasoline fight with the air and my van as I fail several times to knock the cap out.

Good times, good times.

I would have learned that I was supposed to tell someone about the gas spill. I just wrote down my mileage and took off.

Before starting the van I left my door open in case I needed to dive out to stop, drop and roll.

After what happened to me, I'm going the flvegan route and not using the auto shutoff.
