to use a stun gun you have to be within arms reach and I wouldn't want to let an unarmed attacker get that close to me let alone someone who might actually have a weapon.

Tasers have a longer range and I've seen them demonstrated on the Discovery Channel on their less than lethal shows. They look pretty effective when used on those shows, but there's a couple of things you should notice. Basically as soon as they stop zapping the poor guy who gets demonstrated on, he gets up. You only get the one shot with a taser, then you basically have a little plastic club. Also in the demonstrations you'll see that they generally zap the guy with the taser, then have 5 guys jump on the tasee and cuff him. One person with a taser isn't going to have that kind of backup in a self defense situation.

3. And to get all the aggression out of people, have one day a year

as a freebie "Stun whoever you want" day!

That would be hilarious. Imagine all the tension of, say, New Yorkers allowed free release one day a year.

"Turn your walkman down, @(^@#$^* <bzzzzzzt>." Removes walkman, smashes on floor. Stuns body one more time, just to be sure.
