Will Eisner taking on the Protocols of Zion!
Edited on Wed Mar-03-04 10:33 AM by Rabrrrrrr
WOW!!

I LOVE Will Eisner!

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/02/23/books/23EISN.html?ex=1078560834&ei=1&en=9f54f7dc5562bdf5

This latest work, called "The Plot," tells the story behind the creation of "The Protocols of the Elders of Zion," the infamous Russian forgery that purported to reveal a Jewish plan to rule the world. Mr. Eisner, the son of Jews who fled Europe, has reached into the past to say something about the present: a time, he says, when anti-Semitism is again on the rise.

"I was surfing the Web one day when I came across this site promoting `The Protocols' to readers in the Mideast," said Mr. Eisner, 86. "I was amazed that there were people who still believed `The Protocols' were real, and I was disturbed to learn later that this site was just one of many that promoted these lies in the Muslim world. I decided something had to be done."

2. The "protocols' show how easily
the desperate and the hateful can be convinced of something. Anyone who actually reads the work (and I have) and thinks it is real is either a: a six year old, or b: desperatly seeking justification to hate. Has there been a single, non-religious book that has caused as much agony as this piece of crap?

4. nah, mein kampf
was never cited bby people as justification for murder. Certainly it fits the description, being poorly written, polemic and just plain awful, however, it wasn't the basis for the Nazi regime (and lifted from the Protocols, so I guess the Protocols are responsible for MK as well.

9. The NY TImes article talks about the protocols,
what they are, and when they were debunked (1921).

They were written by a hatefilled guy who lifted the stuff from a book of fiction that was written a few decades before. Kind of like how, I'm sure, in a year or decade or two we'll see some useless idiot taking "The Davinci Code" and regurgitate it as truthful, obvious factual stuff and a reason why we have to hate masons, or opus dei, or jews (most likely) or something stupid like that.

Amazing how a book written a hundred years ago, and shown to be false, repeatedly, STILL has people following it. The lie carried far, far more strength than the truth.

11. I just fear that some idiot will take the book,
take most of what's in it, rewrite it a bit, then offer it to the world as a "research book" that proves whatever conspiracy the author (of the new regurgitated book) wants to conspire.

And I hadn't realized it, since I haven't read the book, but the new Opus Dei headquarters, which is mentioned right in the beginning of the Da Vinci Code, is a building I walked by everyday last fall on my way to and from work.

12. The effect of the Protocols on American politics
Get a copy from the net, and read it. You'll be surprised. By the way, the copy I linked to is a heavily annotated version of Victor Marsden's translation, called "The Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion". It's from an Australian fundamentalist Christian site, not an Islamic one.

In each of the 24 protocols, you'll find the originating form of some of the most durable right-wing cliches. Millions of conservatives parrot the Protocols without the slightest idea of what they're doing.

Gun confiscation, taxation as confiscation, sexual "immorality", cynicism in government, the "One-World Government", political correctness, communism, people having too many "rights", it's all there.

It's an amazing "mental bomb", and one that has endured for 98 years.
