2. Good!
popups are annoying. It'll be a good thing that the RNC is annoying people.

4. Time for a new ISP and new web browser
I had Earthlink until about 3 months ago, but then decided to go with SBC. SBC was the only major ISP the did not reveal subscriber names to RIAA lawyers looking for people to sue.

As far as getting rid of annoying popups load Mozilla 1.6 and you won't have popups ever. And it's opensource software.

5. I don't get them...
but are you using their desktop software?

I occasionally go directly to their webmail page through my browser, and have never seen an ad of any kind.

6. "directly to their webmail page through my browser" -- that's where
it showed up. At home I don't use their software, nor do I use IE (I use Mozilla).

7. a-Ha!
Just went there again and saw a University of Phoenix ad.

Methinks ads kinda come and go on that page. Never noticed them before.

Anyway, I look at it as a non-issue. If anyone can buy a banner ad, Shrub can, too. I'd complain if earthlink refused a Democratic ad.

Loudly.

8. Try webwasher.

I've used it and it works pretty good. Pages load faster because the ads don't load.

9. I was getting them when I visited Ucomics...
I wrote them and informed them that I would no longer be visiting their site, and they would never get a dime from me, because they have accepted money from the RNC.

I got the typical "Thanks for your feedback. You comments will be forwarded to our advertising department. By the way, our "pay service" doesn't have banner ads"

Translation: Get lost moron!

10. Nah, it's a robot
They all say that -- or some variation.

They do track feedback. The want to be able to sell advertizers on having a large number of loyal visitors. Complaining actually can work, though the nicer you are about it, the better it works.

The iron fist in the velvet glove approach, y'know.

11. ahh, see I'm going to propose the opposite reaction
than most people here. I say, click on through use their bandwidth, raise Earthlink's clickthrough rate, and make them spend more money on useless banner ads. It all costs them money...
